I've found this to be useful with my malinois not just as a toy but as a training tool like a tug. Giving little tugs on the fanatic's hair has been a great way to reward her for correctly retrieving a ball the way she would a tug.

I just have to say that my Malinois LOVES LOVES LOVES this toy! We call it Bob, and when we ask her "where's Bob?" she will run and find it. She likes to hold it by the "hair" and swing it or throw it which is hilarious to watch!
