Conditioning Your Dog to a MUZZLE

Uploaded on January 1, 2008 • 9 min
Conditioning a dog to a muzzle can be a difficult task. The methods I show in this DVD will work for police service dogs or the family pet. We do it with markers - so if you are not familiar with marker training I suggest that you visit the article I wrote on that subject.

Why 3 stars? This is really an introduction or preview to the COURSE on conditioning your dog to a muzzle. I did learn that there are three approaches to conditioning to use a muzzle: Free shaping, luring, and force. Learning how to implement approaches you can find out about in the course. Also, the first step is to marker train your dog. Second, teach the "place command" so you can work with your dog on a table. There are a few more ideas touched on but nothing substantial. Probably better to just buy the course.

I used a similar video on your site for my first GSD a few years ago. I followed the examples and he took to it with in a couple days..I am now training my second GSD using this method and had to come back for a refresher. Thank you for this great video!

I just wanted to praise Leerburg on a product and an online video. I have a rescued GSD that is dog and people aggressive. I recently purchased the Baskerville muzzle. After watching the online video "Conditioning your Dog to a Muzzle," I was able to take my dog out for a walk with it on after 2 days. Obviously it is not his favorite thing but with some slight leash correction I was able to have him ignore it in 10 minutes or less. Thank you for providing top quality products and videos. I am a pet owner and not a trainer but Leerburg has helped me IMMENSELY.

Thanks for providing this video. I need to train our Mal to wear a muzzle to go to the vet and showing how to acclimate the dog step by step is invaluable. It will hopefully make a negative experience something that is positive. I plan to watch it to review the steps as we progress.

After watching this video, i followed it exactly as cindy did it, and my dog took to it like a duck to water, thanks so much for helping me get my dog used to her new muzzle, we're still on taking the treats from the muzzle but she can't wait to stick her head in there to get them, the marker system really gets results, genius!
