Finishing Work: Reducing the Frequency of Rewards and the Use of Punishment with Michael Ellis DVD This DVD will cover how to prepare your dog for a competition. People have asked, "What kind of competition?" The answer is every type of dog sport competition. This new DVD will teach people who train with markers (conditioned reinforcement) how to wean their dog off food rewards and/or toy rewards in preparation for taking their dog into any dog sport competition. This is an extremely important skill to learn because to do it correctly and still maintain motivation and drive is an art form. The DVD is also going to teach trainers how to introduce their dog to punishments. We will explain when it is appropriate and when it is inappropriate to use punishment. We will also explain how to approach this work based on the temperament and the drive of individual dogs. Internal dogs are trained differently than external dogs; hard dogs are trained differently than soft dogs. Trainers must learn how to tailor their training program according to the temperament, the genetics, and the drive levels of their dog. Our training is directed to those who use a positive training system, or in other words, those who use a foundation of markers or clickers in their work.

reinforced things that I have forgotten, solidified the reasoning I probably didn't understand well enough prior. Already seeing improvements in myself and my dog. Thanks Michael and Leerburg

I wish I knew all this before I even started with the most basic training. I was already more or less familiar with the marker system, but have used the negative punishment marker way too soon in the process and in the wrong situations. Knowing all this now makes me think I messed up my dog and that he can never reach his full potential of what it could have been if I did things more correctly. This video is gold

Very complete and informative! Must watch for every trainer, it contains the essential final touches to all the work you've put in to your dogs. But get familiar with Ellis' system trough some of the other dvd's first.

A very good DVD for every trainer. Too many trainers think that the key to removing rewards is to punish, punish, punish, but with this DVD, you can see how incorrect that is. This DVD is amazing and I will continue to watch this over and over again to absorb every piece of knowledge.

I really got a lot out of this video, as I do with every video that I have purchased from Leerburg. Of particular interest was the concerns and points to consider before using an aversive. What is reasonable, what is fair and what can you expect a dog to know? In addition to that, I have watched individual sections many times and will continue to refer back to them with deeper understanding.

This video is the glue that patches all the holes in my training. After one or two sessions I can see a big difference. Bloopers at the end was a great treat. Someone give Michael a negative punishment lol.

Not a fan of + P but Michael is very understanding of the fall-out in using +p and is very experienced and educated in their use. I can see if used correctly how they can work. This video gave me clearer ideas on how to prepare my Standard Poodle for obedience competitions using Reward training more effectively.

This is a great video. I have been training successfully for years but still found so many fine points and explanations to learn from. Have watched it several times and get something out of it each time.

Probably the best ever video on the how and why of dog training.

Michael Ellis is the best at that from the get go but this video carries it to a new level.

The different explanations of terms is excellent.

The explanation of what can go right and what can go wrong with each step.

How to avoid those things that can go wrong.

I've trained dogs since the 1950s and I've always felt that understanding the how and why when it comes to dog behavior is KEY to becoming a better trainer.

Michael has give me more "WOW" moments in explaining simple things I've always just taken for granted.

Just short of 70 yrs old I truly believe I'm still learning and Michael Ellis's videos, in particular this one, have been a huge eye opener.

I finally was able to watch the entire video through the first time. Kudos to Michael and Leerburg for this video, it was very thoughtful and well planned. As all of other Michael Ellis DVDs, this one will be another Michael Ellis video that I will learn something from every time I watch. I do not have a "mainstream" working dog breed and I appreciate that the video also considers those dogs that do not react in the same manner that the popular breeds do. You will not be disappointed if you purchase any Michael Ellis/Leerburg produced DVDs. I look forward to more and I have almost all of them.

I really enjoyed this video! It was the most "finished" of the Michael Ellis videos. There was a lot of information here to think about and it will require multiple watches to get the most from it. My dog does not do competition and is just a good companion that loves agility work and learning new tricks. A great video!
