We are at war and war is ugly no matter how you cut it. For those of you that get this and agree with the punishment I ask you to walk a mile in his shoes you will have a change of heart.
I think that when you mistreat prisoners in a prison it has nothing to do with war. If you are in an environment where it is "normal" to do that it is very easy to do it too. Normal treatment of prisoners and humanity is one of the things that should make the difference between us and the enemy. If that is not the reason that the West is in Iraq the only reason I can think of is oil.

When you are in a prison, you are a prisoner and not a combattant any more. When you shoot a terrorist when he's armed or when you want to arrest him and shoot him because you think he's armed or has a bomb,no problem. But once he's ypur prisoner you'll have to treat him in a decent way although you may be disgusted with him.

Just because a person is in a prison, or is a prisoner, does not mean they are no longer dangerous. These are people who will sacrifice their own life at a drop of a hat to take a life of ours. These are people trained in close quarter combat and I wouldn't consider them safe to be around unles they were chained four pointed to the concrete. Just because they are detained doesn't mean they are now harmless. They will always have death in their hearts and should be handled with that in mind. I'll ignore the comment about oil, other than to say that there are alot of dead New Yorkers who will strongly disagree with you.

9/11 had absolutely nothing to do with the war in Iraq, other than Bush pretended it was to get our men there... The real war should be solely in Afghanistan or Pakistan or whatever Stan Bin Laden ran to. However, since we're in Iraq we need to finish it off and get our men (and woman) out of there and do whatever that takes. It's terrible that the soldier was sentenced to hard labor, but at least he wasn't given a dishonorable discharge like the rest. We can only hope that those in charge at the brig, or wherever his 'hard labor' is to be served, will cut him some slack and treat him like the hero he is. Personally, I don't care what soldiers do to prisoners, but to say that NY'ers (dead or not) think the war in Iraq is a legitimate retaliation for 9/11 is false. Our war is in the mountains of one of the 'stans' and we know this.

Yes, Bob. In fact, you wrote it, so there is indelible proof!
I had to read that story twice to make sure I wasn't missing anything, since by the responses, one would think that this angelic prisoner was tortured ...yet all I find is a story about a dog who barked... I find it quite interesting and just slightly amusing that on this board, a WORKING (like PSDs, MWDs, etc.) DOG FORUM, we have people who are against a barking dog. BARKING! WTF?!? Perhaps some bleeding hearts need a gentle reminder as to who the members of this board are, in general. At their age, it's easy to forget things like that (not you, Bob ). Go play nice with the prisoners yourselves if you have a problem with their treatment. Just make sure your dog doesn't bark at them .
