My baby died having her babies

On Saturday morning I awoke to find my pregnant Jack Russell Terrier trying to have her puppies. She was very weak, and I called the vet and she said I would have to help her to get them out. We got all five out, one died. Then their mother started going into convulsions. I called the vet, who said to bring her in right away, but before I could get her out the door, she passed away. I am having a really hard time with it, mainly because I feel guilty for not being able to help her. I have been bottle feeding her puppies, and they have been doing pretty well, even gaining weight. But one of them stopped eating last night, and today I noticed blood coming out of his rear. I am sure that he is sick, but I really don't know what to do. I just keep taking care of him along with the rest, hoping for the best for him. I can't lose him, I have to do right by his mother. But I really don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

First, all we can do is our best. You did your best.
Second, your focus now has to be on the babies. Others here can help with that, but I think they will say that the bleeding one has to see a vet.
I have posted a web page with all kinds of info for raising and socializing orphaned puppies, and I'll dig it up.
All you can do with the babies is your best, too, by the way. After you do your best, it's out of your hands.

I saw this on that web site I gave you above.

That first page of the site has a lot of "helpful hints" that apply to the first few days. I looked at one of those links down below, called Neonatal Care for Orphaned Puppies (PDF format), and it too looked very practical and helpful.
I'd print a few of those pages and read them that way, since from the stuff I read it doesn't seem that you will have much sitting-at-the-computer time.

No, no, all I have are links. I know less than zero about new puppies. Maybe breeders will see this thread........
But I will absolutely help with finding out stuff for questions; I know lots of us will!
I second Ann's invitation to ask all the questions you want. There are a lot of people here who can help, with either first-hand knowledge or research.

There are a few possible causes of rectal bleeding, I read, and they all need a vet. But you could call the vet and ask for advice about that. I'd call first thing in the morning before they get busy.

Yes, I have been wiping them each time I feed them, and I do some in the middle. They do also go on their own, but usually after they have been touched and/or picked up. When I woke this morning this one was gone, and two of the others are now in the same situation. But the other is moving around very well, just whining a little, I think because I have seperated them because of the large mess the blood makes. I was afraid the mess could make him sick. I still feed one of the sick ones, because she still eats. I have a friend who works in the vets office coming over to look at them, but he said sometimes things just happen because that is the way they are supposed to.

I haven't much to add - just that I'd like to !!!reiterate!!!
how important this stimulation is!!! My Border Collie stim'ed
her pups more than just after feeding and a few times in between.
Please do this diligently - allot of the time!
Even now, just as they turn 4 weeks and are weaning, the mom
STILL licks to stim. them occasionally, not that they need
it now however.
Sorry about your loss. I would be heartbroken if Star died
during her labor. I can't wait to spay her!
