My Bandogge is 20 months and had whip worm and coccidia about 3 months ago. I have taken back several stool samples and he is said to be free and clear. They got to him pretty bad and he lost some weight and REALLY messed up his coat.
It should be silky and smooth...his hair, especially on his back is really 'coarse' and not very soft.
Although it is getting a little better, I was wondering if there is anything any of you can recommend.
His skin is flaky and dry also. I would think this should have been cleared up by now.
Also, what kind of shampoo do you guys recommend and how often do you bathe your dogs? he seems to get dirty quick!
How often after a bath should it take for him to start to 'smell like a dog'  ? Week...two weeks...month?
Anything you guys recommend is greatly appreciated.

There have been a bungload of similar questions about coats, baths, and diets on the board in the last fey days. . .not to mention over the last few years.
Do a search on the topic and you'll find a lot of information.

Soft and silky? My dogs have a good shiny thick coat but the guard hairs are somewhat coarse and almost wiry.
No baths, unless you count mud wallows and dips in the stream (all red mud)and a hose down with no soap if they get too muddy (like caked mud). They are out in the woods offlead a LOT and in and out of all kinds of stuff.
They live inside and don't smell doggy (honest) but they are on BARF. I did notice a doggy smell when they ate kibble and much of it came from their ears.
I comb daily with an undercoat rake and do wipe them down with a damp towel if it is mucky out.

I dont know if silky and smooth was the right desctiption...but it used to look alot better. I see other short haired dogs of his type and there coat looks so much healthier.
I have been thinking about switching to the raw food diet also. Everyone seems so happy with it and from what I've read, the dog benefits a great deal.

Wow so you guys dont use ANY shampoo? Warm water and thats it? He has alo of white on him, so he appears dirty FAST! Why doesnt anyone use shampoo? Does that dry them out?
And I did not realize he needed to be brushed that much...I just ordered the comb/rake from leerburg along with some DVDs for training.
Diet...he eats Artemis Power Forula with 'missing link' and cod liver oil.
It seems he eats only when he has too. I mean I'll get his food and he wont even touch it for hours...and even then he just picks at it. Before the worms he used to inhale this stuff. I am lucky if he eats 5 cups a day. (110lbs, and looks a little lean)
Also, smell...someone mentioned they get smell from the ears...what causes this and how do you prevent it?

The smell in the ears is either an allergy (I think) or the diet... or both. Kane had smell in his ear and is was infected but it was due to his old dog food most likely. I dont feed him raw I feed him Canidae All Stages. I would like to do raw but right now cant. As far as baths and smell... I bathe Kane with Earthbath Oatmeal Shampoo. I just tried it on him and I was very pleased. He also has very flaky skin and after I bathed him (when its normally really bad) he had very soft shinny fur. I also am giving him flax seed oil now. Kane still gets doggy smell in between baths but I just buy a deoderant spray and use it in between baths. I bathe him about once a month depending on if he gets muddy or extremely dirty. My back yard is mostly dirt so that doesnt help. Good luck!

The smeel in the ears is a yeast infection in most cases. A vet can give a perscription for a cream to get rife of it if it is bad. I use a box of non allergenic baby wipes to wipe out the ears of my dogs once a week. They love it and it keeps there ears clean. They also sell an ear wash that can treat the yeast. Depending on the severity of the dry skin my vet advised me to use human grade dandroof shampoo(selsom blue). I have an old LAb that has very bad allergies, nothing has helped him. Bathing twice a month has made the best difference for him pluss a small dose of prednazone (not good in the long run, but nothing has helped, even allergy shots)... Hope that helps...chet

Yeast infection? Wow...are there any other symptoms that might throw up a flag?
