But I'll bet some slimy lawyer filed a law suit against the store owner for having "dangerous conditions" or some other total BS and knowing the Justice System, that scumbag got awarded the store.

Only if it was one of those screwed up States(New Jersey, Cali etc.) that allow scumbag criminals to sue. Alot of States criminals loose the right to sue when they break the law.
