Planet Dog joins with HSUS?

Planet Dog (maker of Orbee balls and Orbee-tuff toys) seems to have paired up with the HSUS ("the world’s most respected and effective animal welfare organization") for a public service campaign to encourage more people to adopt shelter animals.
I'm not really that familiar with HSUS but I get the feeling it's kind of like PETA in a way? It seems they raise money but don't have any shelters.....
