Good for you, Howard. You threw it right back at him and in front of an audience, no less. Bet he wasn't expecting that. \:\)

No he wasn't. He was expecting an ignorant cop. Education is the key in these not very well known laws. He's so used to spewing what he knows to unwitting people that he got relaxed.

Any further news on the movie guy Howard? Did AC nail him with aggressive animal tickets?

Yes. AC went to his home in the neighboring city and issued two citations. One for out of date vaccine, and one for aggressive animal at large. I've not been issued a subpoena so I assume he didn't fight it.

Good!

At least he was somewhat smart enough to know that he was over a barrel, though it would have been fun for all of us to see him sweat in court and raked over the coals by Judge Judy and the expert witness! \:\)

In a word "Yes."

And as you probably already know Howard, the Florida Statute allows "Service dogs in training " as well as their trainers to be given the same access as a person with a true disability accompanied by a true service dog.

What a slippery slope indeed.

hi,
kind of a related comment on this thread---there are 2 people in my (very small) town who strap home-made vests onto their UNRULY and possibly civil aggressive, barely under control 2 GSD's and 2 APBT's and parade them around at any possible public place/event--motocrosse rallies, stores, malls--you name it. i suppose just for attention and drama. b/c they have some kind of service type vest, nobody questions them. another slippery slope, eh? ruins the image of an obedient calm k9 partner for anyone who is *really* training for service of some kind.
thoughts?

It surprises me that this isn't a governmental red tape fueled epidemic. Give it time.

Jen,

I thought that it was a felony to impersonate a disability?

I wish service dogs had to pass a CGC test or something similar. Disabled people with service dogs aren't required to carry any kind of special ID for the dog but wouldn't that make it easier? To get the ID the dogs simply passes a CGC type test.

As for dogs for people with mental problems. I think in many cases it is very effective. I have some problems and when I take my dog to dog friendly stores it REALLY helps me. He also helps me stay on a even keel in general. Another person cannot do the same for me as my dog does. I'm seriously going to ask my doctor about making him into a service dog because its very difficult for me at times when I can't take him with me. But my dog is well behaved and won't disrupt anything or threaten anyone...and its legit! I would have nothing against passing a service dog test and showing a card to enter a public place. I know they don't want disabled people to be inconvenienced or have to go through a bunch of crap but then we don't want non-service dogs in public either.
