I used to own a Fila when I lived in Mexico City. This was way before I even knew that there were working line Gsd's. I was mistaken as to what I knew truly was a PPD or guard dog. I'm not posting this video to put down any breed or person in particular. But after watching and doing real bite work (as most of you have as well), I thought you'd find this way of "decoying" and doing "bite work" amusing. Enjoy.

I have a heard of rumor about Fila having a special hatred of stranger called Ojeriza. Honestly, I find it a bit skeptical. They act like that is probably because they simply have poor/bad nerves.

I agree with you Lindsay. Before I was enlightened by working dogs I bought into all the hype lol :(. Sad display of bite work in those videos IMHO...

Wow, how markedly UNimpressive. The first video was the best. After reading the descriptive slides, I was expecting to have my socks knocked off, and then.....a big, spectacular whimper ;\) It was as if someone had put those clips in as a joke on Fila owners. I'm no PP expert by any means and I don't know anything about the breed, but that video was embarrassing.

Lindsay the trait of “ojeriza” is no rumor and would not suggest you test your theory on a correctly bred Fila. The Fila like all working breeds has been watered down by their show community for reasons that are peculiar to them. I have written this before and do so again, a trait does not remain true in a breed just because it once did. In order for any trait to continue it must be first selected and then bred for on an ongoing time frame. Like all working breeds, there are today, show (watered down) Fila’s and working Fila’s defined as having all of the traits assigned to it and it is good to remember an instinct does not represent a trait.

But supposedly the CACIB Filas are the real deal, the ones that work, herd, hunt and so forth...

Comparing the Fila to a Malinois or GSD is really comparing apples to oranges.
The Fila is a defensive breed, a dog with little prey and quite a bit of guard instinct. Nothing we can usefor sports based on choreography and police behavior.
I have a little experience with this breed. They are fine guard dogs, big impressive, and territorial. But, do not confuse that with the definition we use in police work and sports based on police work.
One area I have not seen them work is in tracking? They look so much like hounds I wonder what they can accomplish in that arena?
