A friend of mine started a dock diving club in my area and he'd like me to join. I think it would be a lot of fun but I'm concerned that it would be too much for my puppy's bones and joints. Its very convenient since he LOVES playing in water and I have a dock and river in my back yard. By the time the weather is nice enough to start training, he'll be about 10 months old. Do you guys think this is a bad idea?

I'd go check it out.\:\)

I have absolutely no idea what training would consist of, but can imagine that there is some foundation stuff that would be great for a puppy.

Especially all that swimming.\:\)

Jealous! Just gotta throw that out there. River and dock in the backyard!

Wish I could get my dog interested in dock diving, but as much as he loves to swim his entry into the water is more careful than a cat's.

I had SO much fun when we did this with Nico. she was too big to really win but we did get a couple second places in the junior division.

The most important foundation with her was teaching a solid wait command so I could put her in a sit at the back of the dock, walk to the end and release her and throw the ball at just the right time.

The other thing that a lot of people used was a pole with the bumper on it so they could work on height as well as distance.
