Normally I have a typical puppy, bouncy (but will mannered), always wondering why I'm not in the mood to play at the moment, will climb walls if not properly exercised, etc

I called my vet who told me to watch him, he's coming back into town tommorrow...the e-vet wants $410 for a walk in and bloodwork and since he's not in distress I'd rather not pay a months rent for what could be an off day....

However for about two days now (this is the second full day, at the end it will be 2.5 days) he's not been at the normal energy level. I haven't worked him at all for that time to see if he was just tired. Previous to this he had not been worked hard for a few days, has not had time to get into anything (which is locked up). His heartworm and flea stuff (frontline) were last administered at the beginning of the month, he has not had any vaccinations recently and was neutered the end of last month.

What's normal:
eating habits
drinking habits
poop/other bowel movemnts, gut noises, no tight belly, etc
gum color
Heart rate
breath rate

What's not normal
no energy (willing to move when asked)
a little stiff when he gets up
slightly wobbly (goes away as soon as he's moving)
wants to sit/lay down (and has the loose puppy sit when sitting)
wakes up panting (stops when he moves of)
his ears have been down and droopy (he's really mastered that "I'm sick love me" look)...and considering he's cattle dog/shepherd this is odd.

He's walking normally when I get him outside and willing to play the first day I took him out for some frisbee and he chased it normally, even for the first time caught some of the mis-throws (we're still at the roll the frisbee and keep it low to discourage excessive jumping) though he trotted back half heartedly and didn't try his keep away routine. His walk, trot, run are normal (no bunny hopping, limping, shortened stride)

I checked for signs of bloat. He has gut noises, eating is normal, drinking is normal, no attempts to vomit. Lyme disease (he was vaccinated for this right before I got him....though considering he'd gotten no other vaccinations I'm not sure if I believe it...I mean....why do such an odd shot and not rabies or the other standards?) was considered but I have no means of checking his temperature (the house thermometer is not for dog butts....)

Any Input?

Well, I'd get a thermometer.

"he's really mastered that "I'm sick love me" look"

This doesn't exist in dogs unless there is some "look" that has been rewarded. Dogs are actually the opposite of hypochondriacs, reluctant to exhibit pain, injury, weakness.

I would absolutely make a vet appointment. Is there another vet who can fit you in (besides e-vet)? I would want to see a vet today because the fairly non-emergency things I can think of don't apply to a dog of this age.

JMO. Others may have more specific ideas.

Given the length of time, I would want to make a vet appointment as well. Dogs can have off days, but 2.5 days is more than that.

Also, getting a 'dog' therometer is a great investment!

I found a vet that would look at him for $230 with bloodwork, urine tests and such (more than the e-vet for less money)

they don't know what's wrong other than that he has a fever and apparently is terrified of bedpans (urine collection was...interesting. Picture a puppy hopping around peeing with his leg up being chased by a vet tech....luckily the little sample cup they sent home with us isn't as scary...need to drop it off tommorow)

He's taking it easy now in a nice pile of pillows and his favorite toy. He's still eating and drinking normally. Now he's so quiet the cat is actually cuddling up with him so he's happy (he loves the cat....cat doesn't usually have the same feelings) They gave me some stuff to bring down the fever and reduce inflammation which seems to have made him a little more comfortable.
