First off I want to say I am sorry for your loss. I can not imagine what you are going through to have had that happen.
Did you let the vet know about the container? My bet is not windsheild washer fluid- but instead anti-freeze.

How Horrible!!!!! I feel very sorry for your loss and am absolutely APPALLED that anyone is sick enough to do that to an innocent dog!
I agree with Deana - anti-freeze is a commonly available, known lethal substance to dogs. There are a rash of deaths from it every fall and occassionally poisonings on the news attributed to sick people putting out antifreeze for dogs.
I believe an autopsy will show crystallized kidneys [liver?] from this poison. Again, I am sorry for your loss.

First thing, you have my sincere condolence over your lost.
It sounds like a purposeful poisoning of your dog. If the vet report confirms this, call the police and file a report. Ask for an officer to come out and gather evidence ( hopefully you saved the container )I would not let your other dog out of your sight at all, and you need to check the area that the dog will go into before hand to prevent possible repeat attacks.
You also need to review in your mind, who would do this kind of thing to you. These episodes are rarely random ( except for teenagers ), they usually are from a pissed off neighbor or enemy.

April, I am very sorry to hear about this. If your dog was poisoned I hope the coward is caught and given the same treatment.
Will, not to get off topic here but does one poison proof their dog for liquids (like anti-freeze) in the same way that is done for food items?

Hmmm...honestly, Mike - I can't remember anybody training against a liquid poisoning agent. Very good point, I think I'll be doing some overseas E mailing and I'll let you know what the guys in Holland say.
I'm thinking that we might want to add an extra step of training in posioning proofing here. It might be that no one trains against this as it's harder to deliver a liquid agent against the dog.

[/qb][/QUOTE]Even worse, it has a sweet taste which makes it irresistable to a dog or other animal. As little as 2 ounces can be fatal to a dog.

At one time, Ed had an article on poison-proofing. It was at www.leerburg.com/poison.htm. However, that page doesn't seem to be available anymore.
As I recall, the method was similar to crittering and snake proofing. It was aversion training using an E-Collar. You put a sample of antifreeze on a rag in a PVC pipe. The pipe had holes to let the scent out. Anytime, the dog paid attention to the pipe, he was nailed hard (without verbal comment) with an E-Collar at max setting.

Thank you to everyone for your kind messages of sympathy. It was very hard for me to except that someone would do this to her. I Know this is a long dark road Im walking. Mike, you bring up a good point I have never heard of anyone proofing for liquid poisons. Charlie , that sounds like it might work I'LL have to look into it.
