Which have you done? Prefer? Pros? Cons?

Alfie is not getting any younger and I quite frankly do not know what to do. I'm not worried about cost. I don't feel right about cremation, but I don't want to bury him in our yard for fear he will be dug up someday for some kids pool when we get old and die.
There is a cemetary here that is for pets and they say it cannot be used for anything else, somehow the land was donated with that stipulation or something. Still I don't trust them.
Could I have my pet buried with me when I die if I have them cremated??? I really don't want to spread his ashes for fear of inhaling them....sorry but it's the truth.
I've buried pets in my yard before and I really don't like it, but at the time, I wasn't even aware that cremation or a pet cemetary were availible and frankly, it's just the West Virginia way.
Any thoughts?

And as always....if this is in the wrong section..please move.
Thanks!

pro's and cons

Touchy subject but I'll throw in. I would say it comes down to cost $$ period. I love my dogs, past and present but they are still animals not humans jmo. My last dog, kidneys slowly shut down on him. Got to the point where I had to carry him outside and in and hold him up so he could relieve himself. I brung him in that night and told the wife, that was it, in the morning I had to take him in to the vet and put down. It wasn't right for him to hang on like that there was no hope. It was as if he understood what I was saying. He looked straight at me for a few licked me, then went into a siezer and died.

Now back to the subject, that is a best friend. To save me a $100+ I happened to have a heavy duty box that fit perfect took him to the farm the next morning and if I am not mistaken is still there

Not everyone has land available to them so one has to do what they have to. once again jmo. As for cremation you can have some else throw them to the air if you don't want to worry about breathing the ashes stay up wind!. Or you can keep them and have them put in your casket with you. I did what I did cuz I could and I also had the piece of mind knowing for sure that he didn't becomes a science experiment or some other dogs meal. Though people do it, most if not all cities have ordinances against pet burials on residental land if it's brung to their attention do they enforce it? I don't know.

We buried Gaudi in the yard. She also died of kidney failure at 5 1/2 yrs old. Vishnu we're going to have to put down this year due to DM, hubby wants him cremated. Don't know why, but that's what he wants. But I'll have to be the one to take him in when it gets to that point.

We had an old kennel dog (abandoned) That lived here until he was 16. We had him cremated and he is sitting in the office as I type this. We were going to spread his ashes, but why? he always liked being here anyway. To be honest I hardly notice him. It's not like he smells or anything. I would keep the ashes and have them put with you if that is what you want. a lot less worry.

We had a dog we buried in our yard as a kid. Parents retired and sold the home. I keep thinking about whether the new owner would dig up whatever is left of him.

I have other dogs buried, same fear -- what if the house is sold? Unfortunatey one dog was taken from me (long story), put to sleep and was thrown in the garbage. That definitely hurts the most. Cremation costs more, but since I know I want to do that, I just save up a little while the dog is alive. You can bury the entire thing and if you have to sell the land, you can take them with you. I have had a dog sent across the continent from a cousin because the dog was happiest here were we live, so she is buried up here. We can always dig her up if we sell the land.

Just how I see it. I guess before I die, I can have the ashes spread out in the wilderness or something ...
