How to Buy a Leerburg® Puppy

April 11, 2007
After over 30 years of breeding German Shepherd Dogs, we are taking a break from breeding. We won’t be offering any German Shepherd litters in 2007 and have no plans in place for 2008 at this time. Check back to http://leerburg.com/litters.htm for updates and the status of our planned litters for the future. We will continue to have one or two carefully planned Kaiserhaus Malinois litters each year, with our next litter planned for early 2008. Visit http://kaiserhaus.com for information on our Malinois.
If you have any questions or comments, please email Cindy at cindyr@leerburg.com.
If you are trying to decide whether or not to buy a Leerburg puppy, this is what you should do:
- Call us at 715-235-6502.
- Once you decide to buy, call us and tell us what
litter you want one from and what sex you want. Then send a deposit
for 1/2 of the price of the puppy. If you should cancel your deposit
we will keep $150.00 and refund the balance. The reason for this is
that it is very important that puppies go into a home as soon as possible
once they reach 8 weeks of age. If a customer cancels an order, I have
to pay an employee to socialize the pup we were holding for them until
it is sold. Once the rest of the litter has been shipped, we cannot
leave a puppy in a pen alone and ignore it. It needs daily attention
and play.
- Please include a detailed "letter" explaining
what sex, color, qualities, and what you plan to do with the pup. Give
a complete list of your needs in a pup. If it is a police dog, explain
so, if it is a personal protection dog or competition dog or just a
good family dog, tell me so in the letter. Tell me as much as you can
about what you want in a pup.
While we are willing to discuss the dogs on the phone, we still wish to have your needs in writing. It allows us to do a better job of selection testing a pup to fit your needs. We constantly refer to your letter when we run our puppy tests. It is too easy to forget what has been said in a phone call that took place weeks or months before we test.
If you know what litter you want a puppy from let us know. Most of our customers prefer to tell us what type of dog they want and then let us pick the litter it comes from. For individuals that are not familiar with bloodlines, this is a good route to go.
- We will send you a receipt when the deposit arrives.
If it is for a specific litter that is already born we will inform you
of the shipping date at that time.
- The rest of the payment is due 2 weeks before the
shipping date. $45.00 is the cost of a puppy crate. This fee can be
eliminated if you have a small crate and send it to us by UPS.
- We will contact you 2 days before shipping with
the flight information. The pups are shipped freight collect. The price
of the pups does not include shipping. The cost of shipping varies
according
to where you live. I can only say that if you budget $180.00 to $220.00
this should be pretty close. It varies by the distance and the airline.
- We will send a letter with all the worming records
on your pup at the time of shipping. This will also include what to
feed the pup. We also give everyone
that buys a pup our DVD titled "Your Puppy - 8 weeks to 8 months."
- AKC papers are sent as soon as they come from the AKC. This process can take several months.
