Product Description

Having been a police K9 handler for 10 years and involved with police K9 training since 1978, Ed Frawley and Leerburg are excited about a new Leerburg Police K9 bite suit that we have designed (with help from Kevin Sheldahl - an International Police Dog Judge).

Training police dogs is very different than training biting sport dogs (i.e Schutzhund, IPO, or the European Ring Sports). A typical K9 decoy is another officer from the police or sheriff’s department that volunteers to take bites from the departments police dog. Many times these volunteers have little to-no training in how to take a bite. Their biggest concern is they don’t want to get hurt. Then after they have decoyed for a while, they get tired of having to take their boots off every time they put the pants on. This becomes a time consuming pain in the butt because they need to have someone else retie their boots once they are in the pants, because it’s too hard to bend over and do it themselves.

We have solved these problems. Our suits have two independent layers in the arms, more padding in the upper back and pants with legs that are large enough to put on without taking boots off. The bite arms are a totally different design than has ever been seen before in a bite suit. When the dog bites, our two layers can slip against one another, making it easier for the dog to grip and less likely to break teeth. The second layer (which can be replaced) also doubles the life of the jacket. While our pant legs are larger with more padding (which means less pinching), they are also large enough that someone with a size 13 shoe can slip into them. The additional size makes it easier for the dog to bite. They are very flexible right out of the box.

Our suit is a totally different design than a sport dog bite suit. Sport dog bite suits have been around for a long time; they come in both training models or the much thinner competition suit models. Both are designed to be flexible and easy for the sport decoy to work in. The average sport decoy is athletic, coordinated, and knows how to catch a dog on a thin suit without getting badly pinched. Put a new, inexperienced police officer in a sport dog suit and he or she is going to experience some serious pinching and bruising - it HURTS!

The suit will sell for about $300.00 less than a good sport dog suit. While there are a couple of cheaper suits on the market, they are poorly built and can’t compare in the protection they offer new decoys. Our goal is to keep these suits in stock. They are adjustable enough that the suit we sell will fit most officers. If we need to take a special order, we will do it.

Model (Jeff) is 6’3”, weighs 190 pounds, and has size 13 shoes.
