Received a Ana/Xando male puppy ~ DOB 6-7-04

Ed,

I just wanted to let you know I picked up my Ana/Xando male puppy up at the airport on August 5 and I was very pleased. He seemed very uneffected by the flight except that he seemed very excited to have someone to play with and bite on afterwards. When I let him go to the bathroom outside the airport, a plane took off nearby and he seemed to not even notice despite the loud jet engine noise. The car ride home went uneventful except that he wanted to keep looking out the window the whole way. Once at the house he took to it like he'd always lived there. He naturally seems to like people and he runs right up to them confidently tail wagging high. Every day he seems to become more of an alligator with those little puppy teeth and he seems like a bundle of boundless energy. He naturally seems to go for a full mouth bite when he goes after my hand, arm (or whatever else he's going after) It's going to be a real pleasure training and working with this dog.

I'd also like to compliment your staff, they made the whole process very easy. Cindy, Stephanie and Caya were a big help in the process and Cindy was very prompt to respond to any questions I sent her.

Thanks again Ed, I'll also send a picture as soon as I can.

PS. The green ear is a real conversation starter.

Received Ana/Xando female pup born 6-7-04

Hi Ed,

Our new puppy arrived Aug.5th. We were concerned with the long flight (10 hrs) that she might arrive scared and traumatized, refusing to come out of her crate. When we picked her up at the airport, I opened the crate door and she ran out, tail wagging, looking fresh as ever. All the noise in the airport didn't appear to bother her at all. She is a beautiful dog, and we look forward to training her. She acts like she has lived here all her life.

It is a pleasure dealing with people who are as detailed and professional as you and your staff. We have had a lot of questions and everyone seems eager to help.

A big thanks to Cindy, Stephanie and Caya for all their help.

Many thanks,

Chuck & Pam Saul

Hey Ed & Cindy:

I noticed you guys were getting lots of pics of the good looking sable Anja/Xando pups; thought I would send a couple to represent the black and tans.

Mink is really turning out to be a great dog. We are not going to train him in Schutzhund or personal protection, though. He would excel in either, I am sure. I did all the bite imprinting and a lot of 'building drive, focus, and grip' but after watching the quality of training in the area, we are going to stick with just raising a nice, obedient pet and watchdog.

Thanks again for such a great pup. People in the area love him, and everyone asks where he came from. I will send more pictures and details when he hits six months.

Hi Cindy,

Just an update on "Heidi." She is doing great. We started puppy classes this week and she sure impressed the two trainers that conduct the class. They complimented us on a very, very nice puppy. They said, obviously you didn't get her in this area. Made us feel great about our decision to come to Leerburg. She is so smart. While Tom was working her on the floor with the others, she was the only puppy watching her "dad". Our older dog has been adjusting very well. The first 3 days he didn't want anything to do with her. But now he is initiating some play, under close supervision only. His eyes are sparkling again and his coat is back to being soft. I think he was really missing his big brother.

One last thing, what is your recommended correction for her jumping up in the face & biting? We want to correct her properly. We have been firmly saying NO, and taking her by the back of the neck. Other than that she really learning fast. She sleeps thru the night, have only had a couple pee incidents because I couldn't move fast enough!!

Thanks again,

Tom & Robin O'Brien

Hi Ed,

I want to thank you again for such a wonderful dog !!

We have been working on the basic commands and he amazes me daily.

I really did get what I asked for.

I took him to a trainer this weekend and before we got out of the car she was asking where we got him. I proudly told her that it was one of your dogs. She was so happy to hear that there was a Leerburg dog on site that she called over her other trainers and started bragging on you and the puppy.

Your reputation truly does proceed you in the best way.

I have attached some pictures so you can see him changing into a fine young gentleman.

Thanks Again,

Hey Ed,

I sent you this update quoted (listed below) about a month ago. In the questionnaire reply I answered that Iko's prey drive was good to excellent. His drive is becoming tremendous! Per just about everyone (including the training director ) at our 15+ member schutzhund club, Iko is one of the most advanced dogs we have for his age. I have attached a few pictures of me working him with the "flirt pole" - horse whip with a burlap sack attached. Look at his drive and grips. Thanks for such a nice dog!

Received Sage/Aiko female pup born 3-21-04

Hi Ed,

I just wanted to thank you and Cindy for the wonderful puppy. I had called and asked about the only problem that I had with her and that was that she insisted on picking up and eating everything. It was quite a task trying to exercise her while constantly removing stones, clumps of grass and dirt from her mouth. But I am happy to report that she is slowly improving. Her good points are far more numerous. She cried in her crate for several minutes the very first night and then only a few whimpers. All I have to say is "crate" and she races in. I have gotten a large kennel aire crate with a divider and she is using that now. She will come, sit and down...very quickly if I have a treat in my hand. She is not doing quite as well with "NO" but I intend to do better. She was very easy to housebreak and had only two small accidents in the house.

My cousin has one of your females also and I had my Sage (I named her after her mother!) staked out while they worked several dogs with a sleeve. At first she was a bit frightened by the barking but soon settled down. She certainly is a little alligator mouth and I continually try to put a toy into her mouth instead of my hands or pant legs.

I want you to know how helpful and pleasant Caya and Stephanie were when I called for information. Thanks again for my very fine puppy!

Cindy,

Thank you for such a wonderful puppy.

My wife and kids fell in love with him at the airport and my staff and I fell a few hours later. Everyone in the clinic got a chance to greet "Panzer."

He definitely is a feisty little guy.

Our other GSD is a little jealous but getting to know Panzer as a "nose-biter." They seem to be growing on each other.

I hope that Stephanie let you know that we received the puppy in good order.

Please thank your staff for us and let them know that we are telling everyone about you guys. Simply the best.

I have some pictures of him. I know that you already know what he looks like, but I would like to keep you informed as he grows and matures

Received Anja/Xando pup born 3-23-04.

Man, thank you for the AWESOME pup! We named him 'Mink.' He is going to be absolutely perfect here.

He bounded out of his crate at cargo after being in it for a good nine hours with his tail up and his head high. He bounced around a minute then untied my shoes and latched onto my shorts.

He whined for about 30 seconds when I put him back in the crate and then not a peep for the 2.5 hour car ride home. I took him out twice between 1:30 am and 6:30 am when he was sniffing around in the crate; he went 'outside' both times and came back in and settled down. No whining in the crate for more than a minute.

He adores both my boys and whines when they leave the room. It has been loud and exciting around here but Mink just keeps his cool and takes it all in. He hasn't shied away from anything and appears to have absolutely solid nerves, which is, of course, exactly what we asked for. He is really something and I am certain he is going to fit into our family splendidly.

Ed, you should really take great pride in what you do. We are very grateful for this wonderful pup.

Thank you. We had a fun evening of play. She was fed raw hamburger, cottage cheese and yogurt. She ate well. She had a good night. Got up twice but settled back in.

We have the sweetest, smartest, most beautiful and wonderful puppy in the world. She is just unbelievable. We picked her up last week at the airport and she loves everyone and our grandchildren. She is everything we asked you for and then much much more. She has dulled the loss of our dear Mandy, German Shepherd and filled our hearts with joy. She is calm, fun independent but attentive. I could go on but then you already know all this.

Received Cogo/Eros female born 10-2-03.

Zasha is GREAT !!! BIG, BIG, BIG, a little over 40 lbs. now. She is filling out & changing some of her color. SHe is getting the brown around her ears that her mom has. I think that I need to send her back 'cause her black dye is coming off of her head. Do you think that maybe we petted her head too much??!!!! She is a tough girl. Still working on the roll of pics. I took her to the beach last week & forgot the camera. She really loves the beach. I found someone to help me with her training locally which is great. I also have a 'cop' friend that competes with his 2 dobies in schutzhund & is a good source of information. She has great dives & nerves. She can really focus well also. It's amazing what she is capable of at such a young age. It really IS all breeding, breeding, breeding. They were chain sawing branches in our front yard last week & putting them thru the chipper so I saw that as a good opportunity to take her outside to watch. She stood under the tree with the branches falling 10 feet away & the chipper 15 feet away & didn't even flinch. My son & his friend were out front with their 'bikes' on Sunday & she was close to them when they started up & rode off & she just watched & didn't make a move. Not too much seems to bother her, as far as loud noises & such. I also took her to the barn to see the horses. She didn't know what to make of them. But she would have been willing to run with them if invited. She has started to bark at odd noises inside & out for the last several weeks. Especially when someone comes to the door. She gets very intense when someone enters onto the property that she doesn't know. She sounds 3x her size. The gas meter man was here the other day & we have known him for years & he was terrified of her as he came thru the kitchen with me holding onto her as he walked thru. Little did he know that she would have jumped up & kissed him to death...but we don't have to tell anyone that. It is enough at this point that she looks & sounds like she really means business if you come close. (especially living alone, most of the time..eric isn't here much) She is a terrific dog & I love her to bits.... just in case you couldn't tell that. She is so smart it is scary. I especially love it when you speak to her like a person & she tips her head and REALLY tries to understand what you are saying. It is cute. She does have a strong will & mind of her own that sometimes causes us to have a little altercation & a discussion on who REALLY IS ALPHA !!!! I say I am & she relents. But not without letting me know that she is always going to keep on checking on that status. I do have to stay on my toes. She is NOT really bad, she just likes to challenge my authority on occasion...just wants to make sure that I'm doing my job..& she's doing hers. I'm used to that status checking thing....My horse is a heard leader & this has always & still is an issue with him also. We occasionally have the same discussion.

Take care & thank Ed for the wonderful puppy. I actually found myself telling someone today that I would like to get another pup in the future. A male. She thought that I had really lost my mind. With all the work these dogs are. They are not the couch potato type that most people enjoy.. she is perpetual motion. & when the body isn't moving the mind still IS. I think that most of the time it's what I love the most about her. She is a THINKING dog !! I love to watch her solve problems. Thank you, thank you, thank you ED for breeding such wonderful dogs. I have also given his name to several people that wanted to know where I got her & would like one like her. Hopefully she will be a walking advertisement for what is out there if you want to purchase a really great dog and not just a dog.

Til next time.

ANNE

Cogo/Eros female pup

Hi Stephanie,

I just wanted to drop you a note to wish you & Ed & the rest of the staff a HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR filled with peace, joy & love ! I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas.

I also wish to thank you for all that you had done to get Zasha to me. I can't ever thank you enough for all of your help & sincere caring. It was a difficult & stressful time for me & I'm sure for her. Thank you again.

Zasha is doing great ! She is very happy, energetic, opinionated pup. She hates to hear the word 'NO' & barks at me when she thinks that I have used it too much. She loves to play & has intense prey drive & a full mouth bite with quite the grip. She already knows sit/stay & down/stay. She retrieves a stick & loves to chase ANYTHING that moves ! We are having quite the time together. She sleeps thru the night from 9:30pm until 7:30am with nare a peep & has since the first night. She loves to go out shopping & see new people & things. She is well socialized& not too much seems to bother her. She is VERY mouthy. I call her my ' land shark'. She has almost doubled her size & weight in the 4 weeks since she arrived. She now has a crate for a 60lb dog & loves it. She can now stretch out fully when sleeping & is happy that she no longer has to fold up to sleep. (& still keeps it clean & dry) She will often heads for her crate when she has had enough play & wants to take a nap. She was no longer doing that when she had the smaller crate 'cause she likes to sleep all spread out a lot of the time & was not able to in the smaller crate. She & the cat have begun to reach an understanding & are tolerating each other pretty well, although it will be a while before they will be turned loose together. They get nose to nose on occasion & seem to be able to not get upset by it. My hope is that some day they will be happy to share the same turf. She is such a delight. I can't imagine life without her. I love her to bits.

I will send you some new photos soon.

I will be in touch. I wish to order another tape or two & will call you next week.

Fondly,

Anne Jones ( & Zasha)

Kaiser arrived safely and was confident and full of energy after his long trip. He's a great looking pup and definitely loves to follow us around. He was definitely hungry once home and quickly ate his first meal here as per your BARF plan. Anyway's here are 2 pics from his first day. I have a few more but will send those later. He only lives about 75ft from the ocean water and got up close to it today without a fear. Thanks for the wonderful addition. I didn't see his registered name anywhere...what is it?

Hi Ed,

I was playing with Ally, and decided to take a minute to thank you for providing me with such a wonderful partner. I have been around hundreds of german shepherds, and personally raised at least 30, and Ally is truly special. Part of any trainers success is being able to communicate with the dog in a way he understands. With Ally this is an effortless task, as we are perfectly suited to each other. I don't know exactly where Ally and I will go in the future together, Schutzhund, or OTCH, but we are going somewhere because we are such a team.

Thank you,

Ed,

I wanted to let you know that we continue to be impressed with Uschi everyday. She is a great pup and doing wonderful! We are following your 8 week to 8 month video suggestions, and Uschi aims to please, it’s really easy to get her to follow commands at such an early age and she is having fun doing it.

At 12 weeks she already understands the basic commands, plus she is eager to do a few tricks on command...all of this is for treats, but she definitely grasps the idea of following a command & being rewarded with a treat. We work in small/short sessions several times a day, and sometimes she I think she wants to work and tries to get me to work longer or more frequently. We always end each mini training session with playtime, she chases anything that moves and is very mouthy.

She is fully house trained, and she is very clever. At times we keep her in the kitchen behind baby gates. When she’s in the kitchen, I keep her leash on the counter desk in the kitchen. Several times she lets me know she has to go outside by pulling the puppy leash off the counter and taking it to the door, she stops and then give me a look that says it time to go outside. I’ve never had a dog go to this extreme to let me know it’s time to go outside!

We appreciate you selecting such a great puppy for us. Also, as you suggested we will not be spaying her.

I was glad to learn your son joined the Army, and I hope he does well. It’s nice to know there are still nice young men that want to serve our country.

Best Regards,

Evette

A quick note to let you know that our puppy arrived last evening and we are overjoyed with her!

We opened the crate at the airline cargo building and she walked right out and greeted me and my daughters as if she had lived with us for the past 4 months, and was glad to be home. She settled in for the car trip home (1 1/2 hr) and never made a peep. At home, we spent 2 hrs introducing her to all of our cats and dog, and the goats and then it was bedtime. She settled into her crate and never made a peep until 1am, quick walk outside, and she was good till 6am.

She is EVERYTHING we dreamed of! I have no hesitation in recommending your dogs to my clients. You have done a wonderful job of socializing her. She came into my clinic twice today for short visits and greeted every person and animal with great curiosity and love. I believe we will name her Seelah which is an indian word that means: "goodness in all things" That she is!

Sincerely, Liz Hassinger DVM

SECOND REPLY:

Our puppy is incredible! I can't thank you enough for doing such a great job with her. If you ever want to ask me questions about homemade diets, vaccines or anything else Holistic, I'd be happy to help you out!

My children and I are very happy, and the video is a great help as well. Seelah perked right up when she heard Nick bark, and watched the 2nd half with us with great interest!

Dear Ed,

Griffin (Utz/Loki litter 10-11-00) is really doing great. He is exactly what we described in our letter. Very calm but plenty of prey drive. He is also extremely impressive looking, everyone that sees him makes a comment on him. I will try to send some pictures.

Tallie (Ron/Ida litter 10-30-99) is very impressive in her bite work. Our trainer said you almost never see a female this tough. We have also just completed the first level of the obstacle course, and she was one of the best in the class. Both dogs are fantastic, not just because they have the ability to do these things, but because they also have the temperament that allows them to use it.

This letter is very long overdue, but better late than never. For a long time before I purchased a Lucy-Ron female from you, I had always believed it was important where your dog came from. I have always disliked the backyard breeder because most of them haven't a clue as to what harm they are doing to the breed. Owning other GSD that came from like breeders I was determined not to do it again. I watched your web site for some time for the right litter to be on its way or better yet on the ground. Then there it was, a litter of black and tans. I called and sure enough there were females not sold yet. So I sent off a letter to you with about six or more requirements for my next dog. Thinking if you could come close that would be fine. I had not taken to time and expense to visit your kennel. I have gotten videos from you and have read your writings for years. Hoping you would come close, matching a few requests. It never seems the same when you don't pick out the pup yourself. I never expected to get the dog of my dreams! As this dog matures and works with me each day she constantly amazes me. I've wondered if I am finally ready for a real dog and that god has decided to bless me with a truly wonderful dog. I can't thank-you enough for your ability to pick a dog and to take the time to really read peoples requests and not just ship off just any dog. I look forward to the next Leerburg dog in my house, my Kit needs another dog of her abilities to romp with. Wow the thought of two Leerburg dogs in the same house is truly a wonderful thought. Once again thank-you so very much. I've referred a lot of people to you, but I know of none of them that has been willing to take the plunge. Oh well it's their lose they will never know the joy.

Sincerely Yours

Hi Ed,

Just dropping you a note on Rycca Vom Leerburg (Ron/Danu). Once again, she passes another test with flying colors. We took her in yesterday (a couple days past her 13th month) for prelim OFA and a blood panel. The vet said she is a definite "good" and possibly an "excellent" for hips.

She's 68 pounds right now and doing great in her SAR work. She was consistently working aged trails (4+ hours old) and we've switched air scent work. She's a natural at it and I just love to watch her work out problems. I always leave training with a smile on my face.

Janet Wilts came down to teach a class this past weekend and we're thinking about breeding Rycca to Comanche when she's ready. It was good to get feedback on Rycca from someone experienced with a Leerburg dog. Janet commented on Rycca's drive and, of course, her good looks!

We had 3 Leerburg dogs together this weekend. Don Morrision's "Sherpa" was there too.

Hope all is well up North. Take care.

Hi Ed,

I would like to let you know what has been going on with our love, Diva. She is one year and 14 days old today to be exact. Time flies. And not a single day passed, we didn't feel fortunate to have her in our lives. She is Ron and Quanda's daughter. Her registered name is Gerta. We call her Diva.

I have been taken her to SchH training since she was 8 months old. I plan on getting her ready for Companion B trial this fall. She enjoys the SchH training so much. She would pull me so hard each time to get to the training field with a prone collar on her. She is especially crazy about the protection work. Now she is trained to sit and Gib Laut before given the sleeve. She is also trained to chase the helper to get a bite on the sleeve. She does all with enthusiasm and spirit. I think that's the attitude she has had since she was a puppy. However, She is still full of antics which make us laugh all the time. She is still very friendly toward people, dogs and other animals. She is 70 pounds now. I will mail you her pictures taken a few weeks before she was one year old.

Ed, I don't think I would ever thank you enough for what you've given us through your breeding work. We will take good care of Diva and help fulfill her potential as a working dog in return. Wish you the best.

TESTIMONIAL:

Just wanted to write to let you know how pleased I am with the new pup. Rivka is absolutely 100% what you said she would be and more. I must admit that even with your good reputation, I did not expect such an outstanding pup. You never mentioned that she would be absolutely beautiful. Rivka arrive in great shape. 10 minutes off the plane she was more interested in a waded up piece of paper I threw for her than the jumbo 747 taking off over us. This pup has no fear and is very focused.

Rivka is already finding narcotics and has a very good aggressive alert. I did not plan on her learning detection until later, but since all her toys have different narcotic odors, she kind of picked it up herself. This pup could save me thousands of dollars in professional training, but I’m going to send her to the academy anyway.

The city put on fireworks shows on the lake for the millennium celebration last night. The fireworks were shot almost directly over my house. My current police K-9 (2 year-old GSD Samson) heard the loud booms and promptly put himself in his crate for safekeeping. Rivka promptly ran outside with me and found a cocaine hid I had planned for Samson, it sounded like WWII, (Rivka has no fear).

Rivka has a solid bite and can’t get enough of tug of war. Her pursuit is fast and she hits the target hard. Between my partner and I we probably tested 100 dogs in 1999, out of that 100 we found only one very good dog boomer-explosive detection K-9). I was so tired of test 1.5 to 2 year-old dogs with limited potential, I decided to take a gamble on a Leerburg puppy. Barring unforeseen medical problems, that gamble is going to pay off. Please feel free to use me/CDS/MFPD as a reference.

TESTIMONIAL:

Ed,

I just wanted to let you know how my new Leerburg pup was doing. Onyx vom Leerburg (call name "Pharo") is an incredible pup. Even though the trip from St. Paul, Minn. to Orlando, Fl was long and hot, when he arrived he was still in very good spirits. House breaking has been a cinch! I have given him free supervised run of the house for a couple hours a day and he's only made 2 mistakes. In fact, I think my wife was to blame for one of those mistakes. In the two short weeks I've had him, I've already taught him to bark at the back door when he want's to go outside. Though he's not great at it yet, he's coming along fine. When we have to put him in his crate for rest he's absolutely perfect.

After the first 3 days we haven't heard a whimper out of him when he's in his crate. When he's calm, he's calm. When he comes into drive and wants to play, watch out! This pup will bite anything and everything. We have found that giving him a toy instead of your foot or pants or furniture will keep him occupied just fine. I have found that unless you've had a pup from this type of working line, you have no idea of what "drive" really is. Compared to this pup, the last 2 GSD's I owned had virtually no real prey drive. This pup lives to bite, chase, and chew. The members at my Schutzhund club love him. I try to take him somewhere at least once a day to socialize him. The pup is really fearless and friendly. The only thing I've even seen him flinch at is a guy on roller blades who was skating really fast at both of us. Even then, he only took a couple of steps back and then chased the man as far as his flexi lead let him. I'm really happy with this pup.

He was definitely worth the wait and the money. Our first vet appointment is tomorrow. I'm sure he'll get a clean bill of health. I've kept him on Eukanuba Puppy food. The pup eats like a vacuum! Well, I guess that's about it. I'd like to thank you for living up to your end of the deal. This pup will make it pretty easy to live up to my end of the deal.

Thanks again.

TESTIMONIAL:

Dear Mr. Frawley:

I read some of your selection and temperament testing material and tried the umbrella test with Shadow, now 11 months old. He has such an even and stable temperament I can't believe it. He's very alert and notices everything, but just doesn't get too excited about things or run out and bark at people. He does watch carefully however. On the umbrella test, it was done in my front yard on a quiet day, familiar surroundings no distractions. Prior to the test I played two-ball with him with sitz or platz between the balls. I first let him smell the umbrella but did not make a big deal about it and started walking around, then about 18" from his nose I let it pop open right in front of him. His ears immediately leaned forward, he did take one step back then growled, jumped, and lunged forward and bit a piece out of the umbrella and wrecked it. There was about 1/2 a second between the umbrella pop and the bite, he didn't stand there trying to make up his mind what he should do. I said nice job you just wrecked the umbrella. Maybe he thought I was playing a new game of tug or something. Is this passing? I hadn't seen this response before.

He doesn't chase kids on bikes, etc., and goes for daily walks with a flexi and a prong, its actually easier on both of us. Won't be doing any more umbrella testing, maybe this is for young puppies.

Well thanks, he has turned out to be an excellent animal. He went from the crate to the kitchen and from the kitchen to the whole house. When he is tied out like your first steps tape 101b there is an entirely different animal here. Deep guttural bark growl, up on his hind feet lunging snapping at the canvas decoy or puppy tube. Does not like to AUS however. Cannot be shown a tennis ball in the house at all.

TESTIMONIAL:

Ed and all the gang at Leerburg, Wednesday evening I went to Philadelphia International Airport to pick up Marshall, my new Leerburg pup. At first glance into the shipping crate I knew this was a superior animal. The coat was better than any pup I've seen in Pennsylvania and to curiosity and drive of the little guy was amazing considering the two flights it took him to get here. The instructions that came with the pup were excellent as are all of the videos and anything else I have ordered from Leerburg. Your warning about the pup being mouthy was right on the money, but when I took him out socializing at the firehouse everyone had a toy for him to properly divert that drive to.

Well take care and thank you for all you have done. Being 24 and not having any family makes pets valued companions.

Ed:

Would like to let you know the progress of my Jenny/Argus male (Yorry Vom Leerburg) We just recently obtained narcotics certification (marijuana Meth, Heroin & Cocaine) with the Ohio Peace officers training council as well as NAPWDA. The master trainers were very impressed with how well this young dog performed.

In Ohio you have to train with a “state approved” trainer before you are tested. I had been training my dog on my own from the time he was about four months old using the methods shown on your drug dog tape. As a result I think I could have passed the test on the first day of the school.

He is also a super tracking dog (RCMP style) . I have worked my way up to the 1 mile 30 min old country tracks.

We have started bite work and the trainer and helper (both very experienced Schutzhund trainers) both say he is a great dog. Bites hard with a full mouth grip. Shows no fear. The most ask question is “Were did you get that dog” I am looking forward to “Patrol dog” certification in the future. I don't know how the rest of the litter turned out but I am very happy with my “Leerburg dog.” My success is a result of several things. First is the fact that I have a dog that has the genetics to do the work. The second is the fact that I invested in many of your tapes and have applied the concepts in a way that has left the dog a winner every time.

I would now like to purchase one of your females. I would like to develop a breeding program similar to yours. I am looking for a female that would be raised as a house dog that has the drive to perform narcotics work. I am planning on placing a Schutzhund title on this dog. Again I will trust you with the selection of the pup.

Please let me know what the out look is for such a dog. I am planning on putting a deposit in the mail today.

Thank you

TESTIMONIAL:

Dear Ed,

Hope you don't mind a little update on the puppy, who is even more perfect, if that is possible. Even Jeff thinks this little girl is wonderful - he has the best time with her when I take her and Sarge for training. He leaves plenty of time of time to play with her - I know he wishes I would do more than just obedience with her, but I don't feel I have the ability for anymore. He says she's going to excel, no matter what we do with her.

Anyway, she's extremely smart, as I'm sure all of your dogs and litters are. She's already learned to 'Sit,' "Down,' 'Watch Me,' and 'Leave it,' which with her is quite important, as the little devil is into everything. This week we're working on 'Stay'. She gets along great with everyone she meets, and I can't tell you how grateful I am for the wonderful job of socializing you do with your puppies - it certainly makes my work easier. I'm taking her to 'meet and greet' everyone and everywhere I can think of, and she shows no fear. She loves kids and other dogs (I'm very careful that she's not around aggressive dogs!!), and is great in the car. She and I are bonding quite well, much better than Sarge and I did at the same age. She follows me everywhere, and watches me very intently. She has bonded to Jeff also, and they really have a great time. She's going to the door when she needs to go out, and has only had one real accident in the house, which I think is pretty good. In short, this baby is the light of my life, and I can't tell you how glad I am Jeff put me in touch with you. And I can't wait until he gets his own puppy - he's really looking forward to that!

I'll send a picture soon, now that her ears are both up. Hope you don't mind the updates - I just wanted you to know how special we think Sere is.

Thanks again!

TESTIMONIAL:

Just took Kallista (Otis/Derby black female pup) to the vet a few days ago. The vet gave her a clean bill of health. Lori and I just can not get over the drives of this puppy. Your puppy package mentions a fear period somewhere between 9 and 14 weeks. Well Kallista went through hers it lasted all of a day or just that evening. We have been taking her to Petsmart as much as possible and she is amazing. NO FEAR, she just runs up to the people and wags her tail saying "please pet me" The only problem I have had is everyone wants to pick her up. I tell them no. Would you agree? I figured having strangers pick her up would be bad as far as future training went. (her confidence) Her prey drive is great, every bite is a full mouth bite. We took her to the drive in movie Sunday along with a couple toys, geez our ankles would have really taken a beating without the toys HEHHE. She is doing about 15' to 20' tracks. And is also picking up the obedience commands with hotdog. Thanks again for the great pup.

TESTIMONIAL:

Hello:

Just a note to let you know how Blitzed (Orion v. Leerburg, born first week of August 1996 to Holly & Chucho) is faring.

It took Steve ten years to convince me that I could trust a German Shepherd with my children (actually, he didn't convince me: your web site did.) When we brought Blitzen home during the first week of October 1996, he joined a family with small children, aged 7, 5, 3 and 1. I was certain we would run into some problems with the puppy accidentally biting too hard, regardless of breed. I KNEW we'd have problems with Blitzen , considering his father's skills in that arena. Amazingly, we didn't have any problems- oh, he definitely was "mouthy", but he seemed to instinctively know how much was too much, even with those razor-sharp baby teeth.

Blitzen is a wonderful family dog. He has never, in any way at any time, threatened or even warned the children. He is unbelievably tolerant of some of the most obnoxious behavior from these kids. He seems to understand that these are children and doesn't react as one would expect, were he to receive the same treatment from an adult. He is absolutely reliable with guests, friendly, not at all nervous or unnecessarily protective. He is beautiful, a rich red with a lot of dark hair throughout.

He is very affectionate, and we have had no problems with the fact that our 7 years old "mutt", who is the same size as Blitzen is also a male (and un neutered). He is bonded to us all, but I must confess that my husband Steve is far and away the favorite.

An interesting note: I thought that this dog was so well socialized that we may have cleared any protective drive out of him. Then, when my husband was out of town, we heard noise from back in the woods (we live out in the country.) Blitzen transformed! Deep, guttural growls came from his throat - something s I'd never heard before - and he got real serious. I opened the back door to listen better, and he went off after the source, offering very unnerving warning barks. The offenders left promptly, and Blitzen returned with his tail wagging, as proud as could be. Now, whenever Steve is gone, he plants himself at the top of the stairs - you'd have to get past him to get near the family- and growls sternly periodically. I sleep like a baby.

We love this dog and will someday add another Leerburg dog to our family. (Just for your records, we had his hips checked by a veterinary osteopath in Appleton. He has very, very slight dysplaysia: the doctor doesn't believe it will ever affect Blitzen's health, but, of course, he shouldn't reproduce.)

We'd love to bring him over to see you sometime when we're visiting family in Eau Claire.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Kastner

TESTIMONIAL:

Dear Mr. Frawley,

I'd like to tell you about my German Shepherd "Captain." He is a Xodi, Monika son. Xodi is an Orfey, Holly son, and Monika is a Chucho, Derby daughter. We got Captain at 5 months, and to be totally honest, didn't have very high hopes for him. He seemed to tolerate us but didn't really bond with us. He didn't seem to have any ball drive, and looked depressed most of the time. He is now 2 years old. About 6 months ago we got involved in a local Schutzhund club. Like I said, we didn't have very high hopes for him, but we wanted to give him a chance to work. We are not experienced handlers, so we were basically learning with him.

I have to say that he has really surprised us. When we got him on the field, he immediately went into prey drive. He started barking and going for the tug when it was waved in front of him. He showed an amazing amount of prey drive that he had never shown before (outside of wanting to chase cats in the
neighborhood).

Since then we have been working him regularly and he has improved remarkably. His ball drive has improved. He loves retrieving and returning it to us. We started working on tracking and he has taken to that like a natural. He is also doing great in obedience. We are so proud of him. Every time we work him he shows more promise.

He is also much happier. He doesn't just tolerate us anymore but seeks us out for affection. I can't tell you how proud of him we are and how happy that he is finally doing something that makes him happy.

I also wanted to tell you that, because he has just turned 2 years old, we wanted to have him OFA'd. But he had mated with our female during 4 of her heat cycles and nothing happened. We figured that the problem was our female's because she had a heat cycle every 3 months, but before we went to the trouble and expense of having him OFA'd we wanted to make sure that he was able to produce. So we brought him to the Vet to have a sperm count done.

When the vet put the sperm sample under the microscope, we heard him say "Wow! That's phenomenal!" He turned to us and said that he'd never seen so much sperm in one drop before. He let us look in the microscope and we saw that it was teaming. He put it under a stronger microscope and told us that the sperm were all viable and that there were no deformities.

We were proud of our Leerburg male when we bought him because he had an awesome pedigree and was the product of dogs from one of the finest kennels in the country. We are even prouder of him now because he is showing more promise than we could have hoped for.

I know that this letter was rather long. But basically I just wanted to thank you for putting out such great dogs, and let you know that I'm proud to have one.

Sincerely,
Kent Bernard

Ed and staff

I've had your questionnaire on my desk now for weeks and just never got around to it . Tonight I'm in the process of changing addresses for all my subs and other stuff . So I thought it would be a good idea to let you know also. First however I don't think you could make a questionnaire that would properly justify how I feel about your staff, dogs, and your honesty. I now have two of your dogs and want more. They are the smartest most even tempered GSD’s I ever had the pleasure to know and be owned by. Your dogs only need to be shown what is expected of them once, twice at the very most three times and it is programmed into their brains forever. My wife wants our next dog to be a siberian or a malamute, I would rather it be a mal, but do you think you could make one of you dogs look like a mal!!!? So not to go on and on about you, your staff and dogs i'll make this short.

Thanks Ever So Much

Thank you, so much, Cindy, for choosing this puppy for me. You told me you liked 'that sparkle in his eye', but it is hard to compare it with anything until I saw the look for myself. His self confidence is so striking and full of promise. I love his strong, chunky body, and his head is extraordinary. And, he is so affectionate!

We've just had a simply wonderful play session, and he's sound asleep. I'm taking all the precautions with my other animals, but I can tell the whole process is going to be rewarding. My way is to ask a lot of questions, and I thank you for all of your time.

Ed has done such valuable things for the German shepherd working dog, and I wish you great success and happiness in heading his breeding program.

Sincerely,

Carol Drummond

Hi Ed,

Just an update. Lindy's fine and dandy- I weighed her on the nursing home wheelchair scale - 74.8#. Can I stop by the kennel and pick up wormer for her? She continues to go to the nursing home with me to visit the residents, although it's mostly the staff that are really taken with her. She does have two special friends though, that both owned Shepherds before they were admitted, and who miss their dogs terribly. They've both had times when they were too weak to get out of bed, and Lindy, as graceful as a dancer, will pop up onto the bed and lay quietly beside them so they can pet her and just be next to her. It's pretty special to see.

On the other hand, Conrad was messing around the other night, and he put on one of those ugly over the head masks, and he had some kind of cape or something on - he came around the corner of the living room and startled Lindy - quick as a flash, she had both front feet on his shoulders and was growling in his face - she's also really taken to sounding the alarm when people come to the door - being as isolated as we are, I let her continue to bark, and I hold her collar when opening the door. No one ever takes a step across the threshold. As soon as she hears OK, she stops and wags her tail.

How lucky I am to have her in my life - thanks.

Wendy

Cogo/Dylan Male born 6-19-02

Dear Ed,

I wanted to drop you a note to tell you how our Cogo-Dylan pup was doing. Panzer is now 3 months old and displays all the characteristics of an excellent dog. He is very confident, outgoing and strong willed. He will take correction without pause and understands what is expected after only a few corrections. House breaking has gone well, notwithstanding the few exceptions of operator error (I'll blame them on my wife!). We have introduced new environments, people, animals and situations regularly an his response has been tremendous. I have yet to see any sign of apprehension or stress in him, he steadies very quickly and firmly. As expected his prey drive is strong, and very tenacious. We have had to work with him in his play response with the smaller children, but he has learned well. His markings are quite distinctive, and when combined with his black face and big ears, people really respond to him. He takes it all in stride, with a proud gate (some would say a strut) and a wagging tail. It's just amazing.

I'll do my best to keep you updated. Thanks for the great dog, I hope I can do my job training him as well as you did you job in creating him.

Regards,

Bill

Ed-

Hope all is well with you.

Past week or so things here have been rushed, hard to find time to update you and thank you.

Bean arrived safely and is doing well. What a pup! Have been bonding well. She has a lot of drive for the (foam) ball and we play 3-4 times a day. She also displays a focus/concentration level. I have not experienced. She will stare at the ball for at least 10 sec's. before giving it to her, and if she see me put the ball up, she will stare at that location trying to will it back to the ground.

Tracks/finds food very well.

This is a very nice pup and hopefully all expectations will be met. I will send a video soon.

Thanks for this opportunity. See you in July.

Regards-

Charlie
