David Macias became involved with dogs in the late 70's when a neighbor asked him if he could teach his dog to sit and speak. That beginning, led David to a path of over 15 years of active competition in both the show ring and trial field. He began competing with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and later became involved with the United Schutzhund Clubs of America (USA). Hes competed with 7 dogs earning the titles of Schutzhund 1 through 3, FH, IPO3, CD, and CDX. He owned and trained the only female in the history of USA to receive a V rating in the Sieger show and at the world qualifier. As a Breeder, he has to his credit, the 1992 adult non-working-class Siegerin. In addition, he has provided puppies to working dog competitors and families alike. As a Trainer, David has trained over 500 hundred dogs and their handlers in obedience and protection. David feels as many in the Working Dog Community, that a "truly loved dog is an obedient (trained) dog." His involvement with Schutzhund included 2 terms as an elected Regional Director for the Southwest region, which included Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. During his term he presided as judge for nine clubs holding their affiliation trials. Upon the end of his term as Regional Director, David had built his region from 11 clubs to 24. He also hosted the USA Nationals, two Sieger Shows, and two Regional Championships. David's love for Photography naturally and quite by accident crossed over into the World of dogs when asked to fill in at a national event. Since that event, David has photographed hundreds of dogs, 10 national competitions and has accumulated 11 covers of magazines, catalogs and calendars. These covers include, Schutzhund USA, United Rottweiler Club, United Doberman Club, Dog Sports. Known for his spectacular action shots during competitions, David is also known for his conformation and intimate family pet portraits. David feels that his success in photographing dogs in action is due to his experience as a competitor and trainer. David spends approximately 8 months of the year on the road photographing his favorite subjects; dogs, wildlife, and scenics. During that time he travels to several Schutzhund clubs around the country photographing trials, conformations shows, or annual portrait shoots with emphasis on Thanksgiving and Christmas. He currently resides in Riverside, CA., and can be

This section of my homepage will be devoted to displaying a few of Davids photo's. Every month, David will be sending me several new photos. We will use these throughout our homepage and display all of them in this section along with their prices. I have several of Davids shots decorating the walls of the offices here at Leerburg Kennels. In fact the Doberman on the cover of my 1995 catalog came from his collection. It was a difficult decision for a German Shepherd breeder to put a Doberman on the cover of his magazine - but this was the best shot I had ever seen of a tracking dog.
See another page of photos from David Mascias It is important for people to understand that David makes his living as a photographer. This is how he feeds his family. The internet lends itself to easily capturing photos from homepages. Rest assure, that anyone using these photos without permission will be prosecuted. We have committed ourselves to making an example of the first person we find doing this. This may sound harsh, but I come from a media (videos) where copying videos is rampent. Thats the reason I print the names of the people that are caught doing it in the back of my catalog - I want my 40,000 customers to know who the crooks really are. |
