Michael Ellis' Class on Remote Collar Training

Michael Ellis Class on Remote Collar Training
Chapter 1 - Video on Demand

We have begun to stream various Video on Demand lessons with Michael Ellis. These lessons are the opening lectures for the various courses Michael teaches at his school for dog trainers in California.

These lectures lay out the training theory along with the step by step training  methods for the courses that Michael is teaching.

For a number of reasons these lectures will never be offered on DVD,  they will only be offered as Video on Demand.

This video is just a few minutes of the opening lecture for Michael's class on THE PROPER USE OF THE ELECTRIC COLLAR.

Remote collars are one of the most effective dog training tools ever invented. To take advantage of the power behind remote collars, trainers need to understand the tool. They need to understand how to condition their dogs to an electric collar and how & when to layer a remote collar into their obedience training. Michael's lecture cover these points in detail.

No one is going to learn this in 30 to 60 minutes, it’s simply not going to happen. That’s why we have put together almost 4 ½ hours of theory by Michael. These multi-chapter lectures are part of Michael's two day class on electric collars.

Question: Is the Ultra Light Weight Trainers Vest meant to attach dogs to?

Would you tell me if the Ultra Light Weight Trainers Vest is meant to attach the dog or dogs to the vest around my waist? I have two large dogs and it is difficult for me to walk them together. If this is not the correct item, do you know of a product such as this?

Thanks,
Lisa

Answer:

No, the vests are not designed to hook dogs to. They are for carrying all your stuff (treats, toys, leash, etc).

If you are looking for a way to safely connect both of your dogs to you I would suggest the Buddy system.

I hope this helps.

Question: We believe our 9 month old dog is dominant. What would you advice for his type of behavior?

Hi Ed,

I have a 9 month old GSD male, we believe he is a dominant dog. I got him when he was 8 weeks olds, he snipped and bit our hand a lot when we handled him.  Now even worst, he will jump up to us (my 3 kids, husband and me), bite our hands, our body.  I watched your DVDs for "Establishing Pack Structure" and now I am watching the DVD "Dealing with Dominant Dogs." Last week, I tried to establish the pack leader. After several days later, I started to give him attention, his behavior was not changed.  I am concerned he's a dangerous dog to be around with my family, I really appreciate it for some advices from you how to handle him for this kind of behavior.

PS: I have not finished watching the DVD of dominant dog yet.

Answer:

Several days is not enough time to establish pack structure, especially since you have allowed this dog to do what he wishes for the last 7 months. It may take weeks or even months of taking away his privileges before you can start to give him some freedom and privileges back. If you want the training to be successful, you will have to change your way of living with him permanently. Leadership is a lifelong endeavor.

Dear Ed and Cindy:

About two years ago I had reached my wits end with my GSD and then I found your website and purchased some of your DVDs.  I had a very smart, hard, GSD that I didn't have the first clue about training.  Within a month of putting your principles into place, my relationship with him changed for the better. Then I bought a puppy and introduced him into the household and trained him using the methods I learned from your articles and DVDs. He is a pure joy.

I am attaching a picture of the two of them on a down stay. A feat I wouldn't have thought possible with the older dog two years ago.

I am adding a third dog to the household next week and am confident about using your methods to make this addition for the positive benefit of all involved.

I am on your website reviewing articles and am watching the DVDs again in preparation and I thought it was appropriate to thank you again for the gifts you have given that keep giving back.

Sincerely,
Emily
