Leerburg Q&A
Ask your training question

Question: At what age do you introduce Honest Kitchen to your litters of pups?

Cindy,

I am currently feeding Honest Kitchen to my adult dogs and recently contacted the company to ask what age I could begin feeding our puppies. I believe the gal I talked to was Kat and she suggested that I ask another breeder that was using the products with their puppies.  Can you give me any suggestions in regards to when to introduce the Honest Kitchen and any other information you think may be helpful. I just ran across your website for the first time and will definitely mark it as a favorite! We breed Rottweilers and currently feed Orijen to our dogs, as well as Honest Kitchen. I love the food and the dogs do so well with it! I am looking forward to any suggestions you may have for me.

Thank you so much.

Cindy's Response:

Usually anytime after about 4-5 weeks you can start adding small amounts of rehydrated HK to whatever you are weaning the pups onto.

We start using our bottle feeding formula in a shallow pan, then we add ground meat and eventually a variety of different ingredients (like HK). I'd refer you to our bottle feeding page, scroll part way down to see the weaning process  (about 1/3 of the page).

We also have a question & answer section on Honest Kitchen.
I hope this helps!

Customer Comments

Good morning -

I've just finished watching "How to Break up a Dog Fight" - one of the many excellent videos that have come from Leerburg - and although I have ordered a lot of training equipment, videos, toys, etc. from you, I don't believe I've ever taken the time to write and tell you how much I appreciate your web site, videos, and your continuing EFFORTS TO EDUCATE people about dogs and the training of dogs. You have demonstrated through several decades (sorry to date you LOL) your absolute commitment to the betterment of dog training, the welfare and well being of bringing up dogs in a human environment,  and to GSDs in particular. You have featured excellent trainers, and highlighted new training options, maintaining the philosophy that what works for an individual dog and their owner can differ from dog to dog and owner to owner, and that there is no "one size fits all," any more than there is in human education. As a high school teacher for over 30 years and a dog obedience competitor and trainer for almost 20, I find myself going back to the Leerburg repertoire again and again as a reference.

So, in summary, thank you for all you do.
Sincerely yours,
Lin
