Question: We have 3 house dogs. Our friend house sat with two of the dogs while we went on a trip with our other dog. Since we returned, the older female is peeing and pooping on the floor. Is she rebelling? Also, before we left on the trip we would find pee on the floor but we are not entirely sure which dog was the one peeing.

We have 3 dogs, 2 females (one about 2 years old and the other one 9 months) and 1 male (2 years old). We recently went on a trip and took the younger female with us and a friend house sit for us to watch the other 2 dogs. While on the trip the younger one only had one accident inside (we kept her out of her crate with no incidents). When we returned from the trip the older female started pooping and peeing in the house. The first night she pooped and peed in the bedroom. The next night she pooped and then the next morning she peed on the couch in the living room. So my question is, is she rebelling or something?

Also before the trip we would get up in the morning and there would be pee on the floor. not sure if it is the older female or the younger one, but I think it is the older one.

Thank you

Cindy's Response:

I think all your dogs need to be confined when you can’t watch them since you are not sure (with 100% certainty) which dog is soiling the house.

Unless you see them in the act, you need to restrict their freedom and remind them how to be housetrained.  A dog that uses the house as a bathroom (even occasionally) is not fully housetrained.

Maybe your friends didn’t let the dogs out enough while you were gone so they got in the habit of using the bathroom inside?  There really isn’t any way I could know what the reason is but since you were finding pee on the floor before your trip I would say it’s either a bladder infection or lack of being completely trained.

We also have a number of eBooks, which include topics that may help you. We have one specifically on house training issues.

On Leerburg's 2 Handled Flat Tug

We've used one tug between two GSD/Husky mixes, who love to tug with this toy, for over a year now. It is still holding up great from all the use. I found it very easy to work with, it folds up great in the back pocket for walks, and the handles make it easy to get the toy out quick for a reward or to refocus my dogs on me.
