Hi, Ed,
Kaia is 2 years old now, so thought I'd give you a quick update on
her.
We've gotten our Rally Advanced title with a score of 99 out
of 100 on the third qualifying score, and just today got our first qualifying
score in Rally Excellent. Two more will give us that title, hopefully
by the end of May. Also in May, we're starting a beginning Agility class.
We are also working in obedience and protection with a PSA training
club. Their helper/trainer also trains police K-9's for several counties.
He has been very careful of her somewhat soft temperament, and she loves
the work. He feels that it is very doable for her to get a PSA protection
certification title, but we're in no hurry.
She continues to be a joy to live with. She is extremely easy to train, and loves to work with me. She is still about 55 pounds, so will probably be a bit on the small side, which is very OK with me. Fits in my car and house better! She has such a joyful personality, always eager to do the next thing. Yesterday she was playing in the creek, running downstream and splashing with each stride, then out on the bank, back to the starting point, and doing it again.
Thanks for breeding such a great dog.
Glenda

December 7, 2005,
Hello everyone at Leerburg. I just wanted to forward a couple of pics of Socrates Vom Leerburg (CJ & Hilde pup born 7/15/05) (call name Jackson). One was taken 9/12/05 (3 days after his arrival), 10/6/05 and one 12/5/05. Crate training and house breaking went very well. No screaming in the crate and only one mishap inside the crate (a little diarrhea) Each day brings something new. Not only does he change growth wise but temperament also. He is very well behaved, very solid nerves and adores having company. We're working on those sharp little teeth and jumping. He does very well. Jay from Pacific Coast Canines who originally referred me to your website to consider a pup comes by from time to time to check on Jackson's progress. He is very impressed. He said most times he will go to a client's house and pups are just totally out of control and never settle down. He is amazed at Jackson's calmness. He said "you know Elaine, its true, genetics are everything". I don't know if you remember the letter I wrote when I originally requested a pup but I got everything I asked for and more. Also everyone I've spoken to at Leerburg has been so helpful (especially when I panicked and saw a whole chicken wing go down and called and said "somebody please tell that it's going to come out the other end!!!!) Anyway thank you ladies and thank you Mr. Frawley. It was the information you provided on your website and the great training/info DVD's I purchased which led me to choose Leerburg. P.S. I would certainly love to be a "Customer Testimonial" :)

Good news! Jackson passed the second leg in his AKC HT trial on 3/15 and passed the 1st leg of his AKC PT trial on 3/16. He will take the 2nd leg of his PT trial on April 19 and then on April 20 compete in Sheep – Started. I wish you could see him. He is calm, smooth & quiet as he moves the sheep. The judges always comment on what a nice run he has. I have received so many compliments on his performance even from handlers of other sheep herding breeds

We did it! Last communication I sent Jackson had passed the 1st leg (of 3) in his Herding Started class. On Saturday Oct 11 he along with his handler passed the 2nd leg and got 1st place (blue ribbon). On Sunday Oct 12 he placed 4th to get the 3rd leg and now has his second title (he got major points off for taking his eyes off the sheep and looking for mom). No problem, it was a qualifying run and he gave it his best!
The great thing about Jackson is that he is a very biddable and honest dog. He’s the same here at home as he is in trial (well maybe a little more goofy at home).

Ed and Cindy,
…Just a quick note to thank both of you for taking the time to meet with me, when Amber and I came to pick up my puppy. It’s hard to believe that over 2 weeks have past since I was there. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. …as you can imagine, I have been very busy, …having fun!
When I was with you that day, I was a little distracted by Amber. She was as excited as I was to meet the puppy and see the kennel facilities. We were both impressed and Amber had big news to share with her classmates.
It was a great experience to meet you both and I hope that in the future, I can refer to both of you as a friends. Ed, I am sure everyone who purchases your tapes appreciates your experience and desire to help others. You present the science and art of dog training in a casual way that is informative, complete, and entertaining. Your direct, frank, and humble demeanor make watching the videos easy. There is a lot of information crammed into each DVD. Subtle (yet important) points become more relevant when viewed a third or fourth time. You make it possible for new handlers to quickly become proficient handles by shortcutting the years required to fine tune their training experience. You talk to each of us as your friend through the camera. …and we do feel like you are a close friend even if you don’t know us directly. Cindy, you are on a lot of the videos, too, and even though you do not speak as much as Ed (wow, that was an understatement), it’s obvious by the respect Ed demonstrates for you, that you are a contributing partner in the business as well as the art of dog training. Your videos are worth every penny and more! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, too.
The pictures came out great. ..and FYI Cindy, ….you, and Ed, are both very photogenic. I wish I could say the same for me. Email sized pictures are attached. I’ll send full size copies on a cd with updated puppy pictures in a few weeks.
I named my puppy “Beamer”. With help from my family, I had a long list of “call name” candidates. Making the list helped maintain the buy-in from the family. All puppies bite, but this one has puts my wife’s whole ankle in his mouth with ease on more than one occasion. Contributing to the list tended to defuse the bites and helped with the family integration issues.
He really is a cute pup and you are right Ed, Beamer will be a handsome dog as an adult. He can melt your heart in those tender moments in the morning when he first get released from the crate. ….you know those adoring eyes and the full mouth but very tender bites.
After getting to know his personality, “Beamer” is the name that stuck! ……partly for the beautifully engineered German automobile, that drives even better than it looks. ….and partly for the tenacity and courage of the passengers on Flight 93 who regained control of their lives (and destiny) immediately after Todd Beamer’s memorable charge, “Lets roll”. Beamer takes his whole life with that “Lets Roll” attitude!
He has tender moments, ….but most of the time Beamer’s a feisty little guy, with a mind of his own and a determination to fight for what he wants and aggressively resist what he doesn’t want. It took a while (with lots of marker training, treats, watch commands, crate time, and more than several “no”s followed by lots of praise) for me to get his respect and begin the real foundation for bonding. I noticed the change when he voluntarily started to follow me out the door and down the steps to the yard. (FYI, …he only gets a correction for life-threatening actions like eating rocks and biting electrical cords, etc.)
That first night, Beamer and I started the bonding process in the van in the hotel parking garage. He was too noisy in the crate for the hotel room. …..and too noisy for me in the car so I let him out at about 3am. He slept too close to me for me to sleep, but he slept great after regaining his freedom. He bonded. I stressed. I let him stay on my lap for the rest of the trip home from Milwaukee to Columbus, Ohio. We both slept!
Last week, I took him over to the Mid-Ohio Schutzhund Club. I let him greet the members while they were on a break and all of the dogs were put away. Everyone was impressed. He presented a perky, very bold front. He greeted every one around the circle with a calm curiosity. He took his time checking out each person in a very deliberate calm way that even amazed me. Although he didn’t say much, I think from the expression, Jim Alloway was impressed by him, too.
I’ll keep you updated on his progress and how well Beamer and I do in our Schutzhund sport work. (FYI, I got him off the towel and onto the leather bite rag. He gets a good full bite across several folds and holds on even after I let him have it. He has been countering from the first day even before he decided to give the leather a firm holding grip. Also, you were right about limiting the number of bites per session. I noticed that he seem to tire more easily as he developed his firmer hold on the leather. His drive goes down and he want to move on to something else after only a few good bites. 3 or 4 is a good number of bites.)
Again, thanks to both of you for taking the time to meet with me, ……and thanks for the GREAT pup!
More later ………….
Best regards,
Rod Buchanan

Just a quick update and a couple of pictures.
Dita is doing great. She has grown mentally, physically, and emotionally.
She weighed 65 pounds last Sunday, mostly muscle. She is a hard little
dog, but learns quick. She just loves people, which makes us very happy.
The pictures don't really do her justice. A better background and camera
would help.
She still hasn't had her first heat, but we are sure it will start soon. She
is so beautiful and has such strong drives it is almost a shame for her not to
pass on those traits, but we will leave that to Ed and Cindy.
Once again, thanks to all of you for your help and advice.
Rip and Denise
