Q. How do I know my dog's 'ghosts' are gone and can I transition her back to a reinforced kennel?
Hello, long time no hear (which is good but things have changed so I am back)
6 year old dog agressive and separation/clostrophobic resuced akita. Charm to humans.
We purchased the alumium crate about 5 years ago for when we boarded her she would bust of of their crates. It works great as you know.

We have an indoor/outdoor kennel at home which until recently she respected. Bad lighting storm surged our house blew out electronics. She has not been happy in her kennel ever since but it was well contructed. 2 weeks after the storm, we moved to a new state/home etc. Had a kennel built, but she blew out of it in 5 mintues. left her in the garage. destroyed it. typical story.
I am getting her crate AKA Alcatraz tomorrow and read your reponses to the 24/7 crating with bark collar. I am ready to try it. Question, how do I know her "ghosts" are gone and can I transition her back to a reinforced kennel?

A. I don’t know that we can answer that, it’s something that may never be fully resolved.

Whenever having a setback with a dog, it’s always best to go back to basics. How long it takes is a question I can’t answer. You live with the dog, so you need to be observant and base your decisions on her behavior as time goes on.

Separation anxiety is usually never REALLY gone, it’s just managed.

The goal of our pack structure training program is to produce a dog that is calm and submissive and a dog that follows the rules of the pack leader. This DVD teaches people how to become a pack leader that their dog respects and loves. Most people are not born pack leaders. In fact, far from it. The majority of dog owners (many who have owned dogs their entire life) simply do not know anything about the instincts that control our dogs or how strong these instincts are in the domestic dog. Oh people may have heard that they need to be a pack leader or they may have heard they need to be an ALPHA with their dog but they do not understand what this really means or how to accomplish it.

Living with Your Puppy: Establishing Pack Structure
Living with Your Puppy: Establishing Pack Structure
$40.00
Every new puppy owner has the same image of what they want their new dog to be like as an adult. First and foremost, everyone wants a great relationship with their dog but beyond that, those who plan on keeping their dog in their home want a calm, well-mannered, obedient house dog that minds and respects their family and friends. Those who plan on keeping their dog outside want a calm well mannered dog that is respectful to the family and is quiet in the yard or kennel. They only want their dog to bark at strangers that come near the home. New dog owners think the road to success only involves obedience training and house training new puppies. Well that is the old wives tale that is been spread for 100 years and nothing could be further from the truth.
