I currently have 6 dogs and I'm bringing in a Mal pup. Any advice on helping introduce him correctly to the pack?

Full Question:
I have 6 dogs as we speak. 4 pugs, PPD Doberman, and a 14 year old GSD(extremely submissive to all dogs especially my pugs). All of them get long great. I am avid about kenneling them, ex-pens, there is structure in my home, and outside my home with these dogs. We have no issues with dog fights, etc. Everyone knows there place in the pack, knows I AM THE PACK LEADER, and things go pretty well. This being said, I have worked and trained with Heath Farthing of VFK9 for years. I have purchased a new Mal pup. Going to do agility, etc with him. My dogs I have now are all seniors. Female/spayed pug is a bit dominant, but no real problems because I stay on top of them. Like I said, I am huge on kennels and not letting them run loose in the house. This will be MY PERSONAL first Mal. I have experience with them, but this will be the first time I bring an 8 week old mal into the house. Any advice on helping introduce him correctly to the pack?

Thanks so Much,
Mandy

I’d read the article Ed wrote on The Groundwork to Becoming your Puppy’s Pack Leader.

You can read this to get our definition of socializing.

I don’t “introduce” my new puppies to my older dogs, I set up the ex pen in the living area of our house and the pup stays in there. This way everyone gets used to each other in a safe way. Later, I may take some on leash walks with the puppy and one of the older dogs. I’m raising a terrier pup right now, and she’s been raised this way with my Malinois. It’s a gradual process.

We have a ton of articles on our website and also a great question & answer section. You may want to check out the section on raising a working puppy.
