Could you recommend a prong collar to help with my 8 month old Rottweiler that pulls on walks?

Full Question:
I have an 8 month old Rottweiler, who has an extremely good temperament. He is good with kids and people etc.

I have been doing obedience classes with him with great success. At the classes I use a Herm Sprenger Fur Saver, which I bought from you.

My question is: when I walk him, he tries to pull a lot and when he sees other dogs and people walking. He wants to go to them and play. It's not that he's aggressive, it's just that people get scared, and I want to stop that.

I wanted to know if you would recommend a prong collar? I was looking at the Keeper with the hidden prongs only because people would judge me here in my country. I have read many of your articles and I just wanted to know for a dog with such a temperament and issue would that be suitable.

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
Yes, I would suggest a prong collar for this issue as well as our Loose Leash Walking course. My parents raised Rottweilers for many years. Wonderful dogs, but SO strong. The more he practices pulling on the leash, the less sensitive his neck will become, so I would definitely work on this now.

For structured training sessions, the Herm Sprenger prong collar is going to be more effective than the Keeper Collar. It has more "action" than the Keeper. I also recommended the Keeper Collar because you were concerned about the reaction of people in your area. I use the Keeper Collar when I take my dogs on a hike or in places that a prong may not be appropriate, but for my regular training sessions, I use a regular Herm Sprenger stainless steel collar.

If you go with the Keeper Collar, I'd suggest the buckle style with the leather strap, as I have found it is more adjustable as your young dog grows.
