dog training

We seem to get a large number of calls from people asking who we recommend for a school on professional dog training. We always recommend the Tom Rose School in Hight Ridge Mo.

We have done a number of training videos with Tom. He is a schutzhund judge, he has competed nationaly and internationaly in the sport of schutzhund. He has competed in AKC obedience and done very well.

Tom Runs the most proefessional dog trainng school (open to the public) that I am aware of in this country and really the world. If his students graduate with good grades they are all offered jobs in the industry. Lately Tom has had more requests for students than he has had graduates looking for work.

If you are considering a career in dog training and would like more information we recommend purchasing the video tapes Tom & Ed have produced. These videos were done with students attending classes in Misouri. You should also attend one or more of Tom's three day training seminars that are held throughout the year. You will then see why we recommend Tom and his school.

The tapes we have done with Tom are:

QUESTION:

I am writing to you for advice, I think I will respect your opinion. My name is Justin Bellany I am a 19 year old black male from Charlotte North Carolina. I had written to you about buying some videos to train with I think it was last week. Well I save up about 6,000 dollars to go to this training school in Charlotte and it didn't teach all that I thought it would, I mean I am real good at basic and advanced obedience.

But sir I want to learn to train Schutzhund dogs. I have been emailing on the Malinois handler to see if someone would be my mentor, and a couple of people have called me but when they heard my voice one hung up the phone and two asked me was I black then they didn't sound enthused anymore. I really want to learn this ART FORM, but it's just mom and me now and we really don't have a lot of money, and my dad doesn't support my interest in dogs. So I was wondering if you knew anybody who I could apprentice under this summer that doesn't mind that I am Black. Because I would really like to have some more experience before I go to the POLICE ACADEMY when I turn 21.

ANSWER:

Well I have to begin by saying that it saddens me that race even has to be mentioned in an email like this. It should have nothing to do with the Tea in China.

Too often I hear of young people like you who spend a lot of money on these dog schools that are not worth a plug nickel. You should have gone to the Tom Rose School in St. Louis.

I wish that I could point you somewhere but I can not. I simply do not know anyone that does stuff like this. I wish I could help.

All I can say is to recommend that you get involved with AKC obedience and compete in their events, also go to any local weekend seminars (you will find out about them from the other competitors). Then see if there is a local Schutzhund club. I believe there has to be one close. Follow the links from my link page to Schutzhund USA and DVG. They have all the clubs listed on their web site.

TESTIMONIAL:

I saw your article on Tom Rose and I agree 100%!!

Our son graduated from Tom's school last year. We cannot say enough good things about their program and the background he received from Tom and Rob to become a true quality trainer. He has a vision for his future and is happy with his profession. Wow!

I run a website called K9 Trainers and whenever someone writes me about where to go to school, I, too, tell them to go to the Tom Rose School!

Would you mind if I attached your page (above) to inquiries? You have the "credibility" to help potential dog trainers go to the right school the first time.

Sincerely,
Becky Botts
