I made my own tick repellent spray last year for me and Tanka. I have some pretty bad sensitivities to chemicals and do not want to use any on him for his sake and for mine. My spray doesn't seem to last as long as ones I have bought that have extra "inert" ingredients, like vanillan or soybean oil. I have been using bite blocker for myself for years with great success, with about 4+ hours of protection. I bought one for Tanka a couple years ago with vanillan that seemed to work longer too. I don't recall what it was unfortunately.
Does anyone know anything about what effects these extra ingredients may bring to the mix, if any? it is time to make some up today, as we walked this morning and this afternoon I found a tiny tick attached where else but right at his eye. That was not fun to remove.

I actually found the one today I bought for him before. It was Natural Chemistry Flea and Tick Spray for dogs. Has a chemical in it that is similar to sodium lauryl sulfate I think. I remember it working pretty well but it also depends on how bad the ticks are in any particular year. Warm and wet doesn't seem to be a good mix, lots of ticks and they never seem to move back into the woods when it stays wet all summer.
Anyway, I am wondering if any of these ingredients make the sprays actually work better than when I mix one up with just the essential oils?Not side effects. I am figuring they have to be A LOT safer than any of the chemicals.
he hates the sprays, even if I wipe it on, and maybe ones with a better vanilla smell than one that smells so much like stinky essential oils may not bother his nose so much and maybe he won't despise it so bad. I don't like being stinky either, but I don't like ticks.
Just looking for my own HOms Bite BLocker spray and they now have a product for dogs called Petfresh. WOnder if it works as well as the people spray does?
