We tried frontline, but K9 Advantix worked better. We use it in the spring and fall when times are bad. And also if we know we are going to a high tick area. But two months in the summer, we didn't even have to use it since the pups are mostly on my property (protected).
If you have a wooded area on your property, it pays to get yourself a 2-5 gallon pump-spray and stray twice in spring and twice in fall. Cheap and effective.
I also installed deer fencing. Cheap - easy to get at HomeDepot. You do two rolls a weekend, and you're done sooner than you'd expect. Also keeps other animals away from your dog while he's in the backyard.
We live near Danbury CT. Last year I was pulling 20 ticks off my dogs a day (no joke). This year, maybe 1 tick every two months (but fall is coming and is the worse thime of year). I'll be spraying these next two weekends.
