Anja is a very nice black and tan female with a typical black sadle. She is my wife’s dog. We live on the edge of the city. My wife likes to walk in the woods next to our property. When she walks she always has Anja with her. No one fools with my wife when she has her dog along. Anja is a natural protection dog.If you are a student of working bloodlines you can not help but get excited about Anjas pedigree. Lewis von Malatesta Sch III (a Mink son) finished 2nd in 1992 & 93 in the Bundessieger. He is a big tough dog with tons of fight drive. Anjas mother is a daughter of Falko von Haus Sindern Sch III. He is well known in Germany as a super producer of tough hard dogs. In addition we have Enno Antrefftal on the mothers side. Anja is a super bitch.

I thought you would like to know that Ms. Nixe vom Leerburg was the star attraction among the SAR dog handlers present at a NASAR conference held this past weekend in North Carolina. Everyone who met her was impressed with her drive, her intelligence, her inquisitiveness, her enthusiasm, her friendliness, her beauty, her confirmation, etc. You might say this Anja/Orphrey Leerburg pup "knocked their socks off!" She had the time of her life -- so many people to lick and sniff and lots of dogs to play with! Even at 12 weeks of age, she is exhibiting traits of an excellent SAR dog. She is fearless - yet cautious as was evident in her investigation of a smoke bomb. She was introduced to cadaver scent and reacted by pawing and barking at it. Two other young dogs introduced to the scent turned away in a replusive manner. She will definitely be able to function as a cadaver dog. She also enthusiastically searched for me in our run-away exercises.
She is growing very fast and has started to lose her puppy coat (at least down the middle of her back where she has a beautiful streak of glossy black fur). She sleeps through the night and was very good at staying quiet through seminar lectures (although she did make funny little sighs and noises from time to time). She has wonderful energy and drive and never wants to quit (playing, chewing, or eating!).
In short, we are quite smitten with her.

We have an Anja/Orfey male. I just wanted you to know that little Nixe made the car trip from Wisconsin to Virginia like a pro. She is an absolute delight - total ball of fire. Fantastic drive and energy! She is going to be a wonderful working dog - having already demonstrated her unique problem solving abilities by escaping from the exercise pen in the living room in only 20 minutes! However, she then tracked me to the shower! A great SAR dog
at the tender age of two months! She is undaunted by anything - sometimes cautious, but never afraid. She met a parrot and was totally intriged. I must warn you, however, she tried to attack herself in the mirror -- she barked and snapped and danced. Unfortunately the video camera was in the other room. She has made friends with our dogs (with careful and constant supervision) and it was fun to see her crawling on P.J.'s (GSD) stomach and playing tug-of-war with the golden retriever. We are thoroughly enjoying her antics - she does EVERYTHING with 110% gusto.
Thank you very much for spending so much time with us last Tuesday. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of your facilities and wonderful personal visit. We know you are busy and appreciate your taking the time to chat -- however, Peter now wants a black Leerburg shepherd! That must wait until we get our place in Montana built. Two large dogs and one very active puppy are all this Virginia location can handle.
Thanks again.

Well it will be a week from tomorrow that I picked up our Anja/Orfey male pup (Nasdaq) at Logan Airport, and what a week it has been. We are getting along just fine. He is a terrific dog to have around and he and I are spending a great deal of time together. He is eating well and other than an "accident" when I put him in his new kennel for a "look see", he has been perfect. He understand "good outside." The crate training really works. He squealed for awhile (as you said he would in your Puppy video). Now he goes in on his own with an "inside, Nasdaq". I take some chicken (couldn't find any Turkey) hotdogs on our walks and he enjoys our little/short food training sessions. We have the "sit" down pretty well.
Took him to the vets for a "get acquainted" visit and he came away with a clean bill of health. They loved him and she commented that "he sure wasn't bred around here" which I took ( and was meant) as a compliment. He had his first bath yesterday. Did very well. I have been taking him down to the new house (under construction) and he is calm both when left alone as well as when he is around the carpenters (with hammers) and plasterers. He just get dirty!!!
He enjoys the ball on the clothes line and is mouthy as advertised. When verbally corrected, he talks right back which I take as meaning "hey big guy, we are going to do this together and when you push, make sure you do it for the right reason and in the right way."
I hope that you would welcome updates on his progress. We are taking lots of pictures and I will send you some. A truly beautiful dog!!

Just a quick update. This pup (Ron-Anja) is turning out to be a big, strong (and VERY good looking) girl. She's smart and playful. She LOVES the snow. I laugh every time we go out.
Training progresses. She comes, sits, downs, sits before crossing a street, is very good on leash (slow, far enough, etc.). Will kennel up or saddle up (car) without question. She seems to have fun no matter what she's doing.
We're just delighted with her. I had no idea having a dog would be this much work, but it's fun and rewarding to see progress. Training was a little light while it was so cold, but we're starting again. She reacted to hot dog pieces early on (even a small handful) so I switched to Iams puppy treats and she's fine. She's 7 months old now and I'm transitioning from Eukanuba puppy to Eukanuba adult food. No people food ever, except for a stray cheerio that my son sneaks her from his highchair... Everyone comments on her still whenever we're out.
Hope it's going well there. I have some pics from our visit that I'll send along.
Regards,
Rich
