Debunking Prong Collar Myths

Uploaded on November 11, 2017 • 14 min
Jeff Frawley comments on some of the goofy comments from Leerburg’s article on how to fit a prong collar. Jeff points out the facts on how animal rights groups and trainers who lack experience in dog training try to mislead the general public on dog training tools like prong collars. Jeff also puts a prong collar on his neck and lets his father (Ed Frawley) clip a leash to the collar and train him to walk on a loose leash.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video! Using a probe collar changed my 88lb AmStaff’s life ! I use to only “walk” him around midnight because he was leash aggressive and I’m 5’7” weighing 118lbs...basically he dragged me on our short walks in the dark. I finally used the prong collar on him and now we can walk in the daytime with people around! It’s amazing. He also gets excited when I bring it out with his leash and seems to love it! He gets more exercise and socialization because of the prong collar and is generally a more relaxed, less anxious dog.

This video demonstration will help me be able to prove to my friends and family who give me the “positive only” opinion, that prong collars are in fact more humane than anything else.

Hello, Leerburg team

For me you didn’t debunk any of these myths. The reason why is that most of the people you are addressing haven’t had the experience of using a training tool for a specific purpouse. As well they arent using the prong collar correctly, at the right time and so on. Instead of makeing fun of them, You as responsible trainers should teach, not criticize the learners (your customers). That video is built on authority and non tolerance and I can understand why, but I ask you to be more professional and look at the theme more critcally. Thers is a lot to learn and teach.

People don’t know what they are talking about. They think their dogs are kids and try to take care of them as if they were.
If been raising Dobermans for over 30 years and this tool has made my life so much easier. Notice I said tool. Just like every tool learn how to use it correctly. The worst thing you can do is buy a made in China cheap piece of junk by that I mean that the prongs are actually sharp and not rounded off. Basically what I mean is don’t buy it at big box stores.
