There is a more practical 'sniffing' behavior that most family dogs can learn fast that helps owners ! Teach the dog 'sniff' ... to stop when dog droppings are smelled on the ground. Dog waste in leaves or unseen in grass ends up on show bottoms, otherwise. Why search for dog poop when the dog can quickly find it for you (to shovel up) and earn a small treat for a 'job well done' ?
