Leerburg's Online Teaching Engagment Skills Course

I took this course earlier this year it is EXCELLENT! 5 stars out of 5 stars is not enough.

First Forrest is an excellent instructor, a true GEM.

Second the course is structured and flows smoothly for the first time dog owner and the advanced dog owner who is looking to refresh their skills. I wish I had had this access back 6 years ago when I got my first English Setter, but it has proven to be helpful now.

I pass along to every new dog owner that I meet the Leerburg web site and have recommended the University courses to many people. Yeah! Way to go Ed, Cindy, Jeff and the rest of the Leerburg crew.

Ask your training question

Question: If my puppy refuses a command, do I say NO or just lure him into the position I asked for?

Hi Cindy

When I am sure my puppy knows a command and he does it 99 times when I tell him, but refuse to the 100th time, do I give a negative marker(NO) or do I just repeat the command and lure him into a sit? This puppy of mine knows exactly what a sit is but sometimes he looks at me with those "what are you talking about" eyes.

Cindy's Response:

You always mark NO so he understands he doesnít get his reward and then give him help so he gets it right.

He may understand sit in certain context or he may lack motivation to do what you are asking. Make sure you are being interesting enough for him, sometimes we humans turn obedience practice into a drill thatís predictable and boring. Keep things mixed up and fun.

On Leerburg's Bob-a-Lot

I bought the Bob-a-Lot from Leerburg last year for my new puppy, it is by far the best toy in durability and interest. Its a great tool for those of us who may have a pup with separation anxiety, food gobbling or just plain boredom. I know can I leave my four legged bundle of chaos alone for a few hours he will not eat like a heathen and will have fun playing. Crate, ex-pen or just out and about the house your dog will like this toy. It is also hilarious to watch dogs young and old playing with Bob-a-Lot. Leerburg has the best price I have seen for this toy- so you can't go wrong.
