Two New Michael Ellis DVDs Coming Soon

If you have purchased any of our Michael Ellis DVDs, we need your help. Michael Ellis will be here at Leerburg for filming in the coming months. We are planning the production of 2 new training DVDs. The first will be on problem solving and troubleshooting.

This DVD will incorporate problem solving techniques on the training methods learned in all 9 DVDs we have produced with Michael. The new DVD will be a tool to refine your ability as a dog trainer. The material covered in these new videos will help you to better understand and overcome any questions or problems that arise when working in this system of dog training.

No matter how much information we pack into our DVDs there will always be questions about specific problems that apply to individual dogs. If you have any questions that relate to your dog and our training system we would like to hear from you before we film these new DVDs with Michael.

We want to incorporate our customers into these new productions. If you have purchased our Ellis DVDs and are currently a student of Michael’s system we want to hear your questions. Please email your questions to ellisquestions@leerburg.com.

Questions that are not answered in the DVD will be used as question and answers for our free newsletter videos.

Leerburg Q&A

Question: My dogs don't have a strong prey drive. Should I work on more prey drive and try to teach them to play tug?

I have Golden Retrievers, and in most of them, there is not a strong drive to play tug, rather they are driven to retrieve balls, sticks, etc. I have your DVD on training dogs with food, but would like to go further and start using toys. My question is: do I need to get your DVD on retrieving and just go with their natural tendency, or should I work on more prey drive and try to teach them to play tug? In any case, I would need to teach them to "out" the object, so which DVD would be most beneficial in this case?

If you can get your dogs to engage with you via tugging your training will be much easier and your dogs will engage with YOU more (as opposed to when all their rewards are thrown and they get their reinforcement from the item, not the interaction with the handler).

Id recommend The Power of Playing Tug with your Dog. AND Advanced Concepts in Motivation before going to the retrieve DVD. The out is covered in the Tug DVD, but the motivation video is excellent and I highly recommend it.

I hope this helps.

on Leerburg's Basic Dog Obedience DVD

I bought the Obedience dog training video about 8 years ago. My two German Shepherds are excellent thanks to that video. I recommend everyone to go to your website for information. He is perfect at everything except he misbehaves on the lead sometimes. That prong collar should fix this problem. Thank you so much for being there for us dog owners worldwide.

Kind Regards from David
