Mark Keating on Kuranda and Eco Nap Beds

K9 Conversations

Leerburg recently utilized a portion of our Online training platform to offer free live chats with our instructors. On Monday, April 27th we hosted our first chat, which we are calling “K9 Conversations”, with Mark Keating. The topic of the chat was socialization and relationship building with your dog. The chat lasted 2 hours, and we got through a ton of great questions. We had a great time going through the questions and interacting with the audience. Unfortunately, we forgot to hit the record button, so if you were unable to make it you will have to wait until the next K9 conversation.

Our goal is to host monthly K9 conversations with all of our instructors here at Leerburg. If you are interested in participating in our next chat or learning more about how this program works, watch this short video with Ed Frawley.

Our next K9 Conversation will be on Thursday, May 14th at 6:00 pm Central Standard time. For those interested in participating we will open registration on Thursday, May 7th. We are limited to a 100 person audience, so interested people must reserve a spot ahead of time.

Leerburg's Teaching Engagement Skills with Forrest Micke

I took this course earlier this year it is EXCELLENT! 5 stars out of 5 stars is not enough. First Forrest is an excellent instructor, a true GEM.

Second the course is structured and flows smoothly for the first time dog owner and the advanced dog owner who is looking to refresh their skills. I wish I had had this access back 6 years ago when I got my first English Setter, but it has proven to be helpful now.

I pass along to every new dog owner that I meet the Leerburg web site and have recommended the University courses to many people. Yeah! Way to go Ed, Cindy, Jeff and the rest of the Leerburg crew.

Question: What can you advise me to use for tick control that is safe and effective?

Hi guys,

What can you advise me to use for tick control that is safe and effective. I used to spray a chemical on my lawn until I lost a 6 year old GSD to cancer. I tried a topical but my female GSD had a severe reaction to it. It didn't bother my male GSD. After giving it a lot of thought I felt it isn't safe to put a poison on the dogs. I started using a spray I believe I purchased from your kennel called organic neem spray with pretty good success. This year after all the spring rain we received there is an abundance of ticks. Is there anything new that is safe and giving good results. Thanks for your time.

Cindy's Response:

I don't use any chemicals on or around my dogs. During flea/tick season I use the following products. I double the recommended amount of garlic and check my dogs over twice a day to remove any ticks that happen to hitch a ride. I don't ever have issues with fleas.

Flea Free Food Supplement
Garlic Daily Aid
Neem spray
Para Clear

My dogs wear a nylon snap lock collar with a shoo tag, and I saturate the collar with the Neem spray twice a day before we go out for our walks. I suppose you could use a bandana around the neck too, and saturate it with the Neem dip or spray. We live in an area with a lot of ticks and this has helped a lot. It's labor intensive but my dogs’ health is worth the extra time and effort I spend.

I hope this helps.

On Leerburg's 5" Boingo Ball

Having a special needs dog who was born blind, it was difficult finding toys he could actually play with that would keep his interest. He's a German Shepherd, so he of course has that natural desire to play ball and chase things that move, but his disadvantage is actually finding it in motion, so this toy allows him to follow it wherever it goes, bounce and all. I highly recommend this toy to anyone with a blind dog or even for a seeing dog. THEY LOVE THEM!
