I am wondering if I should listen to my vet, and if the test shows his immune system is weak I should vaccinate again?

Full Question:
Hello Cindy,

I would also like to ask you another question about vaccinations. Here in UK most vets insist on it, so I have vaccinated Tyson as a pup for DhPPi. Now I don't want to vaccinate him again no more, but the vet said a have to. I found another vets practice which said they wont vaccinate him, if I don't want to. However the vet advised me to run a titer test, and depends on the results, he decides if to vaccinate.

I just wonder if I should listen to him,and if the test shows his immune system is weak I should vaccinate again? I would do anyhting not to vaccinate him, I already regret I even did the first time. He now just itch all the time, dry skin problem, ear infections... I believe its cause of that.

I fed him since I got him raw diet like you do, adding all suplemments needed daily, so I don't see reason he need vaccination again at all. Please could you tell me what should I exactly do now?

Thanks,
Alexandra

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
Titers aren’t really worth the money, in my experience. All they will show is that your dog has been recently challenged; they don’t truly measure “immunity.”

In other words, if your dog has NOT been recently vaccinated OR recently exposed to the disease you are testing titers on, then it may show that he is low. This doesn’t mean he is unprotected but that is how many people interpret it.

I offer this very simplified analogy. Antibodies are like fire fighters, just because they aren’t hanging around your front door doesn’t meant they won’t show up to do their job when there is a fire. Antibodies show up when they are needed.

Lots of good information!
