Today's Q&A
My 3 Year Old Spayed Malinois is Fear Reactive

My fear reactive Malinois shows reactive behavior at home behind the fence. Is all my work for nothing if she is allowed to do this in the yard at home?

My 3 year old spayed malinois is fear reactive. I have the courses of Ed about dominant dogs and the course of Michael and Tyler about reactive dogs. My question is: she also does this behavior at home behind the fence towards dogs and people. And of course, these dogs or people disappear, which gives her a feeling of victory. How do I fix this problem? because this is the behavior that she also does outside the house towards dogs and sometimes people. So is my work outside perhaps for nothing if she can do this freely in the garden? I think that she still reinforces herself with this behavior.

Today's Q&A

Cindy's Answer

It's very difficult to work on reactive behavior unless you can control the dog's environment at all times. Every time she is reactive in the garden, you are correct, it's reinforcing the behavior you do not want.

When I am working with a dog like this, I won't put them outside without my direct supervision and a leash or long line on them. I know it isn't ideal or easy, but it's what dogs like this need to help them change their behavior.
