Conditioning Your Puppy to Have its Nails Trimmed
with Ed Frawley & Cindy Rhodes
Leerburg.com

The video above was taken from of a new online course and DVD that Ed Frawley and Cindy Rhodes just finished titled, Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 12 Months. The online coursed will be released later this week, and the DVD will follow within 2 weeks.

Conditioning dogs to have their nails trimmed can be simplified if we use markers and have a little patience.

When dogs are not properly conditioned to nail trimming it can be a stressful experience for the dog and the owner. Some dogs scream and thrash around and others will respond by biting . Many times, these dog owners are forced to take the dog to their vet or groomer to get it done.

Rather than use nail clippers, we prefer to use a Dremel tool to grind the nails. We begin by getting our dog on a table (our dogs love their Klimb tables) and turning the Dremel on. Our first goal is that the dog relaxes and looks forward to hearing the sound. You will watch Cindy turn her Dremel on, mark, and reward Meru. She will continue to do this until she is convinced that Meru associates the sound of the dremel with getting a reward.
