Hi Everyone,
I have used Ed's site for some time now and have found it extremely informative. Altough Ed can sometimes be tough he trys to give advice so the owner will learn and therefore the dog will benefit. I find him very knowlegdeable. Anyway that brings me to my point. I thought that this dicussion board would be an extension of advice by a whole pool of knowlegdeable people. I had dreams of asking questions and getting sound answers, but everytime I log on and read the board I cringe thinking "Geez I'm glad I'm not the person that asked that one." I say that because I feel people get bashed to quickly. Most people on this board are most likely novice dog owners and really need sound advice. How else are they to learn. I know that I make mistakes all the time even though I have worked with dogs for over twenty five years. Thank goodness the mistakes are not as big as they use to be. I guess I would just like to see more advice and less critizism. There I have finally said my peace. Please go gently.
You are very correct. Some of us(myself very much included) have been at times rough with newcomers. For the most part, there are really nice people on this board. We are not all "experts" and we all learn new things everyday. I know that I've learned a great deal from certain people on the board. Sometimes we come across rough but in reality though, its just someone not sugar coating things. Don't feel intimidated. There are all types of knowlege levels here. There is no such thing as a dumb question.(Except the ones on Ed's dumb and dumber page of course!LOL ) Welcome aboard!
Well said Chuck! I was intimidated at first too, but after I started reading the topics and posts and compared them to other boards which are a lot of fluff and niceties to say the least, I realized: "You know what, these people really know what they're talking about, and aren't afraid to tell you that you're doing something wrong. And they'll also tell you how you can do things better." Yes some, myself included, will come off as brash at times, but we always have other members best interests at heart. I have learned more in the last few months than I have during my whole life experience with dogs!
Ha ha, just kidding. I just like to think that I'm an expert. I'll be nicer in the future, I promise. You may as well put my name across the top of this thread.
Most times in my life I have found that real criticism is the best advice. You can't get better unless you hear what you're doing wrong. Sometimes it hurts a little but its' a good pain.
Ellsworth, don’t be so thinned skinned. Nobody knows who you are. Ask all the questions you want, sometimes they will be answered sometimes you will get bashed and sometime they will agree with you. It’s all in good fun. For me the fun part is picking the brains of some of these brilliant people. Come join the party .BTW: don’t you ever ever insult my dog.
Thanks you Guys for the feed back. I am not afraid if the whole world knows who I am. My main reason for my post was to try to help other members who might feel intimadated( there I go trying to save the world again.)For the most part I find the advice given here to be very helpful and the members to be knowledgeable and I'm glad to be part of this board. I personally have learned quite a bit , I guess I was looking out for everyone else. Thanks Guys.
Ellsworth, there are some here who are very nice and very helpful. And there are some here who are long on snide remarks and short on good answers. For sure there is a clique on this board and you'll notice that they speak in one manner to each other and in another (rude) to others. That type of behavior is a sure sign of insecurity and shows a need for acceptance and validation which they apparently are not getting in their "real" life. Nevertheless you can still get some information, from time to time. And like I said there are some very nice people here, but there are some people who should stop and think before they publicly ridicule good people. Now it's time to get back to the real world and not be concerned with the inevitable slams of a bunch of Ed Frawley wannabes.
Wow. What board have I been on? Bashing? Rude remarks? Yes a few months ago there was an incident where two styles (prey vrs no prey) got out of hand but I have not seen that creep up in some time. Can someone point me to threads where bashing took place? And Paul that was uncalled for. I respect the years of experience that Ed has obtained in dog training but does that make me a wanna be?
No really don't worry ellsworth we have Vince P as a moderator now. He'll put the hammer on them
If people on the board are unhappy then let me know. If in the future someone has a gripe with the way they are being treated then please private mail me and I will try to be a mediator to the situation. I agreed to be a moderator because I have grown to like all of you on this board. I hope you all feel the same. What I am not is affiliated with Leerburd videos and kennels in any fashion. Ed runs this board not me. I just have fun and try to learn something along the way. I hope you all are as well.
