Submitted by: Diane P
Dog's name: Jasper
Age: 4.5 years
Jasper is a rescue dog I have had for 2 years.  As far as I can tell he is a mix of Border Collie/Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog??  He loves the winter, loves to swim and loves to hike with me.  One of my hiking rules is he always has to have on his Leerburg " I can see you" vest.  Sometimes the vest is the only way I can spot him romping through the forest.  He is my treasure and a gift.

Submitted by: Julia K
Our Dutch Shepherd's name is Kara and she is 4 years old.  We rescued her when she was 10 months old.  She is brilliant and so easy to train. She is extremely caring and protective.  Her commands are in German and she can open doors, cabinet doors and she will pick anything up and bring it to you on command including opening her treat cabinet and bringing you her treats.  She is a huge help with laundry if I drop something she'll pick it up and follow me to where it belongs.  She loves the pool and swims like a fish.  We LOVE our Dutchy beyond words.  She is our 10 year old daughters' best friend!!

206. Winston the English Setter

Submitted by: Margie
Winston    3 year old English Setter (Orange)
He thinks he is a gazelle, loves the treadmill, stalking the robins and playing with our 5 year old ES (Blue) Ranger. My girlfriend and I only went to scope out an English Setter breeder in our area not to buy. We got lost 3 times getting there on the gravel country roads in Friend, NE. Once I saw him I just had to have him, I couldn’t leave without him. He was sick all the way home on my girlfriend lap. As we left the breeders I called my husband Chuck to tell him about the puppy, he was upset. When I got home brought the puppy into the house, got Ranger our other ES out of the car, brought him into the house. I bathed the puppy, wrapped him in a towel and handed him to Chuck who was finally sitting in his chair and finished with his complaining about the puppy. Within minutes Chuck fell as in love with him as I was and continues to this day to tell everyone how much he loves this dog. In a few more years Winston is going to follow in the paw prints of Ranger and make an awesome Pet Therapy Dog.

232. Momma Sea
Submitted by: Donna L
These pictures are of Momma Sea (JC's Sea Bird).  She is a 13 year old retired brood mom that I adopted 3 years ago.  She was a AA racer and still loves to run FAST. She likes to whine a lot  and is surprisingly a good watch dog.  One of her pack mates is Reba- a Belgian Malinois that I trained strictly per the advice from ya'll and Michael Ellis.  Because of that she has morped into a very nice dog and I am pursuing nosework perhaps tracking with her.  Reba, the maligator, is the guardian of my greyhound pack.  I didn't have any good pics of her this year-maybe next year.

THANK YOU all so much for helping me do best by Reba.  When I learned via your web site and dvd's etc. to prioritize engagement I listened.  This dog was environmentally stressed having been kept on the farm by her breeder until she was ~17 months old when I got her.  By listening to you and focusing on engagement from the gitgo she is no longer stressed by new places! I can take her ANYWHERE and she is so focused on ME now that she appears to be stress free regardless of location.  In fact I took her to a large busy ballpark just this week and she was so at ease you would have thought she lived there lol. In fact she is just as responsive to any commands etc at new places as she is at home!  Now, because of that, she has the potential to make something of herself as she is happy to work wherever I want her to.  And all the credit goes to y'all--- you told me what to do and how to do it-and I just want to say thanks again.....and thanks for making clear how EXTREMELY important it is to establish good engagement first!

He has helped save many lives and is always ready to donate when needed. Jixxer and I also went to a local preschool to teach preschool age children the importance of dog safety. We taught them the appropriate way to approach a dog, and what to do if you find yourself in trouble with a loose dog. Jixxer lives life to the fullest and never has a bad day, I often say that we humans could learn a lesson from him, and this world would be a better place if we had his attitude about things.

264. Howie the Australian Cattle Dog
Submitted by: Laurie K
Hi! My name is Howie and I am a 2 1/2 year old Australian Cattle Dog!  I came from a working cattle ranch in South Dakota, but now live with my human mom in Washington State.  It was a scary plane ride to get here, but my mom, she's great.  Every morning as soon as she wakes up, we play fetch!  I love fetch!  Mom takes me for long runs and hikes, but I'm always ready for fetch, from sun up to sundown!  It's funny, sometimes mom doesn't throw the toy I bring to her, so I'll go get another, but she doesn't throw that one either!  I'm not sure what's wrong, so I just bring her all my toys, eventually she throws one of them!

I'm pretty standard for an ACD, I chase everything....SQUIRREL!...herd all the neighborhood cats, and smaller dogs, and stick to my mom like velcro, she doesn't even take a shower without me making sure everything is ok in there.  I hope you'll think of me for your contest, I may be smaller than most of the other ACD's, but what I lack in size, I make up for in cute!

265. Juno the Belgian Malinois
Submitted by: Ron H
Juno is a 2 almost 3 year old Belgian Malinois, she was born and raised in Lackalan AFB.  At her one year mark she and the handler did not bond and she was adopted by my best friend, who was healing up in the hospital from his 3d gun shot wound, as a therapy dog.  When he was released from the hospital and returned to full duty he was away from home 3 weeks at a time and home for 4 days.  After about 3 months he asked us to adopt her.  We were more than happy seeing as we were getting ready to travel to San Antonio to adopted a Military Puppy Mal.  We could not be happier.  I have worked with Mals for over 20 years and will never have any other dog than a Mal.  She has been in a movie, she has done multiple mud runs with us, everyone in town loves her, except the fed ex and the ups guys haha.  We have also recently got her into DOCK DIVING and she is a natural.  Her favorite toys, the 20'fast rope (climbing rope) hanging in our gym, the 4x4x8 in the back yard, cardboard boxes, she will tear through a jolly ball in 7 minutes.
The first picture is from Memorial Day, I got lucky with that picture, seeing as she was smiling.  The next picture is from the Step Up for the Soldiers 5K Mud Run, she was in heaven and everyone thought it was amazing that she ran the event and I head multiple times "I wish my dog was that cool"

267. Natty
Submitted by: Emily D
I adopted Natty in September of last year from a man in Baltimore, MD who was running a private rescue. When I first brought Natty home, he was very skittish and didn't play like a typical 3-4 month old puppy.  He was constantly looking over his shoulder, as if waiting for something to happen to him.

In January of this year, I was watching the late news and saw a story about a man who was busted for running an illegal rescue and was charged with 23 counts of animal cruelty. This was the same person I had "saved" Natty from. Quite a few dogs/puppies that were in this "man's" possession had to be put down because of the lack of care. I came to the conclusion that this man had done some horrible things to my sweet Natty, causing him to be as scared as he was.

Everyday is a new day with Natty. He is still very skittish at times and I often wonder if he will ever get over his fears. He is very playful. We recently started dock diving. He loves the water and the interaction with other dogs.

I thank God everyday that I rescued him. He is the sweetest, happiest, and smartest puppy. He has definitely come a long way in 9 months.

268. Ziva the GSD

“Ziva” (yes, I named her after the NCIS character…cuz she’s “one tough b*tch”)  :)  Ziva is my 20 month old GSD.  She’s crazy about her ball and I took this photo when we were up north (Michigan).  I had to get down at her level to get this shot.  The wakeboarding photo is Ziva going after her ball on the lake.  Look at the wake she is creating!

I purchased Ziva from Vom Reichtal German Shepherds in Verona, Kentucky.  Melody and Richard Greba were the breed wardens for the area and are active in the Schutzhund community.

Also, I am watching many of the Michael Ellis DVDs on training.  Ziva is participating in Agility at Queen City Dog Training (I am an associate member), so I’m looking forward to using some of Michael’s techniques on using the tug as a reward.  I can’t wait to keep working with her on some of Michael’s techniques…I have a lot to learn (and so does Ziva!).

272. Dallas the German Shepherd Dog
Submitted by: Julia S
This is Dallas our German Shepherd Dog.   In February she was 5 months old. She enjoyed her first winter playing in the snow and retrieving her toy. She is a good looking pup that places well in shows, but we discovered she sometimes needs a bath. At 7 months old she is now an active dog and can get into trouble quickly. She was left outside for a short time on an April afternoon and she decided on a mud bath. Dallas has started her Schutzhund training and has the drive of a working dog with a beautiful deep bark for a little girl. We are blessed with a great dog that looks good and wants to work.

Photo 1: Our first photo is our first rescue American Bully Porkchop! He loves to dive, and just started in Splash dogs. This was his face the first time he saw the practice dock and wasn't sure what he got himself into. Now he jumps around 17 feet and has a blast each time!
Photo 2: Our next shot are two other American Bullies of ours, Leon and Theo. These boys are always smiling and showing people how ambassadors of the breed should act!

This is Heiko, he is a 23 month old GSD. He can be a little "ornery" at times, but otherwise a great dog. In Image 1 he is 5 months old, and was busy flushing Pheasants at a local nature preserve. In Image 2 he is 13 months, and we were trying out a new pack, for an upcoming backpacking trip to the Rockies.

283. Nova the Border Collie
Submitted by: Mackenzie A
The dog in the pictures is Nova, my Border Collie. She is three months in the pic of her with the red harness and seven months in the other.
I raised Nova "the Leerburg way" with lots of engagement training. She had very high drive from day one and is easy to train. We are going to start competing this summer in rally and obedience (she'll be a year old in June). She loves her tennis ball with a passion and relishes a good game of fetch or tug. I got her with agility in mind, but she was diagnosed with moderate hip dysplasia at 9 months, so agility is not in the cards. She loves to swim as a low-impact way to exercise.

284. Rita, Fin, & McGee
Submitted by: Debra
Photo 1: This picture of the pups playing we call "Rita Does the Twist" from our own litter of German Wirehaired Pointers born June 2011. (Actually, she was leaping after a bird wing while the others looked on!) Today, Rita is still part of our family, enjoying agility and field work.
Photo 2: This is our German Wirehaired Pointer "Fin" playing with his pal "McGee". Fin is two years old, LOVES field work and is a great obedience dog.

Both dogs were rescued from E list at pound. They currently hold CGC, CD, BH, TDI titles. We are working on CDX, Rally and Shutzhund for next season.  Your website and the DVDs have been instrumental in the training process. Thanks for all the great work.

286. Dyna
Submitted by: Magda D
Attached are two photos of my dog Dyna for your photo competition. Dyna is a 5-year-old GSD. I got her when she was 18 months old from her breeder (working line). She had been sold previously as a family pet because she had a floppy ear, but things didn’t work out and she was returned to the breeder. I don’t know the family, but judging by Dyna’s behaviour, she was probably just left in the backyard without proper engagement/work/structure, which wasn’t going to work for a dog with her breeding. She didn’t know a single command when she came to me and was finding difficult to control her drives and her fears. This is when I discovered your website and your excellent training DVDs. Dyna has made heaps of progress over the past years, although she still is unsafe around other dogs (particularly small ones) and some people. It doesn’t matter too much though, because her life is pretty structured and controlled, which she likes. She is either in her create inside, her outside run, or on a leashed city walk. I bike with her each morning and she also goes with me to the farm where we keep our horses. This is where she can run free and we do a lot of playing/training over there. She wears e-collar when loose and has responded to that very well. She LOVES doing things, is very athletic and a very quick learner. I don’t think she would have had the life she has if not for your excellent training material, so THANK YOU!

Submitted by: Charlotte B
My dogs name is Toluca. (Full name Toluca Vom Haus Barrett) She is a 2 year old female German Shepherd Dog. She loves to play frisbee, swim, hike. She currently competes in agility and dock diving. Toluca earned her BH last fall. She lives with a female American Pit Bull Terrier and a male Husky X.  The photo at the beach is when we visited friends in Miami. Tolcua loved the beach! The other photo is from one of our agility trials. I couldn't have asked for a better dog. I am young 25 year old dog trainer and got the perfect dog for me! I would love the grand prize of the Einstein Collar because I have been studying e-collar work especially Michael Elli's stuff and would really like a quality E-collar. Thank you for the opportunity!

290. Jager
Submitted by: Erika M
Jager is a 2 year old medium size (50lbs) dog (neutered).  I have known him since he was 4 weeks old and trained him with your marker training.  His mom is a yellow lab and dad is unknown, but we think something like a border collie or heeler.  We knew his mom's owners (not the greatest dog owners).  He learns quick, is eager to please and has a ton of ball drive.  Best dog I ever had (partly his attitude and personality and partly the great training).
In one of the pictures, we were on a hike near Glenwood Springs, CO. The other picture, he fell asleep on my husband, Don, with our kittens.  Lazy morning for everyone.

292.Sailor the Belgian Sheepdog & Trader the Szech GSD
Submitted by: Katie S
Photo 1: "Sailor" [ CH Spitfire's Pilot UD RN NA OA OAJ HT TT TI CGC ] Belgian Sheepdog.  12 years old.  By complete accident I ended up in the world of Dog Performance and he gave me his all.  He was my "Heart Dog" and my buddy through life's highs and lows. This photo was taken a couple of weeks before I lost him over the Rainbow Bridge, a month before his 13th birthday.  Sailor was a "Old Soul" even as a puppy, senior dogs are so very special I just love this photo.  OK now I'm feeling weepy again :(
Photo 2: "Trader" [ Carolinas Peach Trader ]  Czech GSD.  Trader is 15 months in the photo.  Trader at 8 weeks needed a performance home, ha ha wonder why :)  so he entered our lives.  What a blast it has been, needless to say we are training IPO.  So just when I thought I knew a little about training .... LOL .  Trader has spiced up my life and opened up an incredible world of fun and excitement.   He has taken my training to another level.  I am grateful of Micheal Ellis's DVD's which have helped enormously, I became a positive trainer 15 years ago so I needed to find a trainer who I can relate to, thank you Jeff for producing them.

293. Heiland
Submitted by: Maggie M
Here are two photos of my dog Heiland - which in German means savior but because it sounds like Highland it reminds me of where my ancestors came from - the Highlands of Scotland and also there are the Cape Breton Highlands where I was born and raised before immigrating to the US.
Heiland was born March 5th of this year so he is 3.5 months old.  I use both collars on him as well as the two pronged leash as we are at a beach where other dogs are often present and the waves are dangerous.
He is a mix of GSD and Belgian.  He weights 45 lbs and eats THK - Love plus Fish oil and Vit E.

294.Great Expectation's Winifred Will Do!
Submitted by: Reegan
This is Great Expectation's Winifred Will Do! TD, PT, RN, JHD  She is 22 months, and was born 9/2/11 and is my first breeding.  I am training her now for her BH with Jim G.  She has AKC tracking and Herding titles.  She will be the youngest Boxer to get an AKC Herding title when we finish up the the 3rd leg needed for her HSAs at a trial in two weeks.  She took 2nd place in both her first two legs at a previous trial, so I do not think the thrid leg will be a problem!  She also works cattle.  She is a tracking fool and is doing well as I retrain her in the Sch. style of tracking after getting her first title in AKC air scenting...that flat nose is working the ground now!  She also has 2 points toward her AKC conformation Ch as of this past weekend, making her one of very few natural eared bitches to succeed in the AKC show ring.

Her mother is the only Boxer in the world with American Herding Breed Association advanced herding titles.  She is 1/2 north American show line and 1/2 Spanish Sch. working line.

295.Beau, Troy, & Gypsy
Submitted by: Nicole F
Beau 3 yrs old.   Beau is an ACD/ Australian Shepherd cross.  He is one of our four dogs who shows all of his personality.  Beau has worked with Andrew Ramsey on foundations to bite work and loved his Nosework seminar.   Currently he is attending agility class with me and is showing great potential.  This picture was taken in the Desert of Arizona on our last vacation.
Troy 4 years old.  Troy is our Rough Collie.  He came to us from a show home at the age of 2.  He had a lot of fear issues with fast movement, loud noises and unfamiliar objects.  Troy has come a long way and is now working on his Obedience titles.
Gypsy 8 years old.   Gypsy is my Smooth Collie.  She came from the same home as Troy but several years before.   She too had fear issues that we have overcome.  He biggest issue was fear aggression toward children.  She is now a great member and loves to work on obedience with my 7 year old step daughter.

300.Phendi Du Loups Du Soleil & O'Mighty Mouse Du Loups du Soleil
Submitted by: Nicole K
Photo 1: Phendi Du Loups Du Soleil IPO3, SchH3, VPG3, CDX, RN, FM, TF-II, PT, CGC, 7yr old malinois.  Phendi has been one of the greatest blessings to me--allowing me so many opportunities, traveling, making new friends and growing as a trainer.  She has a neverending abundance of joy for life and always makes me smile--always reminding me to stop and smell--or bite--the flowers.
Photo 2: O'Mighty Mouse Du Loups du Soleil, ~4weeks old malinois.  Mouse, now Tonka, was the runt of her litter, born not breathing and with barely a heartbeat--her strong desire for life helped her pull through.  Her tenacious attitude brought us many laughs.  She now lives with her new family where she is in training for her career of being a cadaver dog.
