training is a continuous process, also the pup is maturing which may lend itself to teen behaviour. suggest going back to fundimentals of training to make sure puppy didn't "forget" anything. what style of training are you using?
At 5 months old, training is no where near completed. I still work with my NINE year old GSD daily.
Short, frequent training sessions work wonders. Your pup will continue to go through phases where he is great and phases when he is being a complete stinker. It's up to you to work through these times to teach him what you want from him. Make it fun!
Another thing to keep in mind is the phase the dog is in developmentaly. At five months he is still very much a pup and easily distracted, but he is also venturing out a little. Its really very normal.
If I ever have another puppy, it will be on a leash or a line from 14 weeks to 8 months. Maybe even a year old. Its the easiest way to keep control and make a habit of always following through.

If it were my puppy I would look for a trainer that uses correction as part of the training. Luring with food, voice and hand is all great for teaching the puppy understand what you want but if he is blowing you off then some form of correction is in order. How much, what type, timing etc is where a real world trainer is needed. I managed to get a lot of info from this site and Ed's vids, so look around and read the articles.
