Product Description

The K-9 Handler K9-400 is a 3/4 mile range trainer loaded with unique features making it the most humane and effective trainer available. The tapping sensation mode is twice as effective as vibration. Added Bonus of the Bungee Collar system which provides comfort and contact reliability unmatched in the e-collar industry.

The Educator K9-400 is medium range trainer loaded with unique features making it the most humane and effective trainer available. It provides the user the ability to adjust the level of each dog separately using our patented “Lock and Set” feature. Don’t be fooled by the small collar receiver size 2” x 1.5” x 1”, 2.4 ounce, it provides plenty of stimulation for most dogs. The unique COS (control of stimulation) technology provides very clean stimulation without the normal head jerking often found with other training collars. The tapping sensation employed is similar to vibration, but more intense making it a good substitute to the stimulation. The stop watch style transmitter is so ergonomic; you don’t even have to look at the remote allowing you to watch your dog. The night tracking light is controlled by the transmitter allowing the user to flash or continuously light up the collar receiver for locating your dog after dark. Lost transmitter beeper can be turned on to help locate a misplaced or lost transmitter. The transmitter even floats so don’t worry if you drop in the lake. Educator Remote E-Collar will turn a smart stubborn dog into a genius. 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed. Proudly Assembled in the USA.

Why buy an Educator Collar?

Educator collars are lighter and more technologically current. Educator's tapping sensation is twice as intense as their pager mode, their tones are more pronounced, their stimulation is cleaner and has a higher intensity when needed. The stimulation dial on the Educator is easier to adjust and has the "lock and set" feature to prevent accidental over-stimulation, for 2 dogs each dog can be locked in to a different level. Educator's stimulation is of a medical grade type that does not cause head jerking but will obtain compliance.

Another technological advantage of Educator Collars is that they have the quickest stimulation in the industry. In other words from the time you push the button to the time stimulation starts is the shortest in the industry. This may be a subtle to many but competition trainers like it very much.

All of Educator's products have night lights. They have programmable modes allowing the user to select different uses for the buttons. All of the Educator transmitters float and are waterproof to 500' and can withstand 5000 Gs of shock. Comparable e-collars are good to 60' and 1000 Gs of shock, tough but not as tough. They have a quick-release belt/saddle/purse clip combined with the ergonomics of the transmitter make it easier to work. Educator uses Biothane collar straps for unsurpassed durability. Comparing similar e-collars in other brands to the ET300 is like comparing a Yugo to a Ferrari but paying the same price.

Last but not least, the money you spend stays in the US. All Educator collars and products are made in the USA.

After 2-weeks of conditioning my Working line German Shepherd to the receiver, I finally went out and tested this product as instructed on the remote-collar DVD.

It was an amazing experience, or rather a break through! My dog obeys most commands, but with just low level simulations, she obeys ALL of my commands.

She's now walking perfectly off leash, and 98% of the time I'm only using the vibration/tapping sensation.

I don't usually write reviews, but this product blew me away. Thanks again Leerburg!

This is probably excessive in my situation but overall I am very impressed with the e collar. The range is better than I was expecting. I really like the stop watch design. I can tell with the 2 dog version which dog I am working with by feel. Very Nice!

The only thing that I am not impressed with is the charging system. Some what cumbersome. An included for the price docking station would be top notch. The way I envision the dock station would be ... set the e collar devices and controller on a piece of plastic with electrical contacts to charge with convenience. Like the contacts on most electrical devices now a days.

Other than the charging system, overall, top notch training devices.

I've been training livestock dogs for over 40 years and during that time I also trained dogs in the winter time for the police dept back in Illinois in the the early 70's. For the last 15 years it has been strictly high drive, well bred, working Border Collies. Just a little background so you know where I am coming from.

I'm now retired from working livestock dogs and took on a 10 month old Doberman Pincher (weighed 75 lbs) that was totally out of control. Not malicious mind you........yet. This is a very, very high drive, self motivated dog. That is almost an understatement.

The prong collar (used properly) barely got his attention, but enough to get all of his obedience commands solid in an enclosed 50' x 90 'area with a 5 foot high, woven wire fence with an additional 2 feet added at the top of electric fencing, that is what it took to contain this dog.

I read a ton of information on Ed's site before calling Leerburg to talk about e-collars. But I really was already convinced, by all the great information you share freely on your website.

When I saw a few of the videos/photos of Ed and family owning, raising high powered, high drive dogs and training for Schutzhund. I took Ed's advise and bought the K9 400 TS Tactical, Educator e-collar.

I didn't use the e-collar for the first month or so after I purchased it. I wanted to make darn sure this dog totally understood all the basic obedience commands I had taught him first. No surprises.

Meaning the commands were given from all different body placements...ie , if I was directly facing him, my back side toward him so he could not see my eyes or hands, sideways, etc. Also from different distances and angles. That can be a real wake up call to see if your dog really understands what you are asking him to do. I used a lot of treats and a marker word to get as far as I did. But he would still blow me off when he felt like it. Steak doesn't hold a candle to a cat as far as he is concerned. I'm too old to run him down and catch him and he's too strong to hold him back for very long. LOL

When I was sure he understood me, I introduced him to the Educator 400TS as suggested from Leerburg.

I have to say I am so impressed with all the functions and nuances you can communicate to the dog with this the collar...it just floored me!!
This is like manna from heaven when it comes to training dogs.

Sure not the old days any more. I had stopped using any kind of "shock" collar for last 14 years. They just didn't fit the way I was training or give me the results I wanted with the working dogs. I want happy dogs that want to work. Actually I was a little soured on them to tell you the honest truth.

But this Educator collar is everything Ed says it is to a tee!! This is not the old time "Shock Collar" at all. The proper use (and I stress this "proper" people) of this e-collar has enabled me and my high drive dog, to achieve fantastic progress in a way shorter period of time than I was certainly used too.

Actually this accelerated progress, (especially with the type of personality and the high drive of this particular dog) was just unheard of back in my day. It would have taken me at least a year, if not longer to get where I am today with out the Educator. Instead it has taken just months with the proper use of this great new tool that persuades the dog"my way is better",that the Educator people have developed.

All I can say is WOW! Stryker is off leash, obedient to my commands, even with major distractions of the sheep, horses, ponies, with chickens, guineas and a few cats running around (cats are still a little iffy).

But... I have to do a little brag, Stryker stopped dead in his tracks from chasing, when a cat got into his fenced exercise area. Dear hubby saw it and hollered out "NO CATS" from the seat of tractor. I heard the commotion and went running outside in a big hurry and called the dog to the gate. Stryker came running immediately and happily.....and NO stim was used at all. This system works!!

99% of the time I use the vibration stim now to get his attention when it wanders. But he is still very young, just 14 months old and the Educator is always there if I need it.

One thing I'd like to point out, is that I do use the comfort pads on the e-collar instead of the regular points. There is no hair loss of any sign that he wears an e-collar every day.

Ed, I want to thank you for all of the great (and totally right on) information you have made available on your web site for people to read (for free) and watch short videos (for free). There is no doubt in my mind you have helped a lot of dogs and handlers. I know you helped me!

Thanks again for all of your help and carrying high quality, professional dog training tools that work!!

Cheers,
Katy and Stryker

PS Sorry it is so long, but I am really jazzed about this collar.

After reading all the information on the Leerburg site on electronic collars I made the decision to return my newly purchased Dogtra collar from another vendor and bought the Educator from Leerburg. Oh. My. Goodness. The difference in size between the receivers is shocking. The Dogtra collar is HUGE. My Golden Retriever looked like she was carrying a small travel trunk around her neck. The Educator collar works equally well and it's less than half the size. I also like the ergonomics of the the Educator transmitter better. The stop watch design of the transmitter is genius - very intuitive. The only issue I have with the 400TS Educator model is that for a woman with smaller hands the transmitter is a little larger than I would like. As a result I am returning this model and buying the Educator Mini - same features, a little less distance - 1/2 mile instead of 3/4 mile - but after watching the Michael Ellis Ecollar DVD I realized that a 1/2 mile is more than adequate. As he says - your dog is rarely beyond a hundred yards away from you when training. I measured a half mile on my property and it was much farther than I needed. I highly recommend that you buy the Michael Ellis Ecollar training video if you purchase any correction collar. It frightens me to think of the things I didn't know regarding training with a correction collar before watching this video. I highly recommend this collar for normal sized or larger hands and think the mini slightly better for smaller hands.

I bought the 2-dog model a while back and am very happy with it: transmitter fits easily in hand, is easy to use and provides clear visual feedback; lock and set and auto-bump feature is configured separately for each dog; blunt stimulation is very effective but less stressful on dog; buzzer feature can be useful in several ways; you can turn on a light to help keep track of your dog at night; receiver size is smaller than that on most other e-collars. But be sure to read the instruction book carefully, understand when and how to use an e-collar (Ellis's videos are great on this) and start by practicing on yourself or, even better, with a human partner to get your timing right. Works fine for my 70-lb Malamute and 50-pound hound. If I had larger, more stubborn/aggressive dogs, I might have chosen a different model, but from what I've seen the Educator product line is great. (I am familiar with a few other brands.)
