Is a micro prong the right choice for our 40-pound dog?

Full Question:
Hello, we have a very sweet but dog reactive beagle/basset mix. We are currently in training with a trainer who recommended using a prong to help with walks that were becoming stressful (lots of pulling and barking). I can't believe what a difference the prong makes! Our current prong is a bit large though (it is a Herm Sprenger with clip closure, stainless 1.5 inch width and approx 16.5 inches length). Can you please recommend a more appropriate-sized prong for our beagle/basset? It seems too wide for her. Would the micro be too small for her?

PS: I recommend you guys to all friends and strangers who cannot afford in-person training, you are a wonderful resource!!

Micro prongs are for very small dogs. What is Ella's weight?

Thank you for your response! Ella is a 40lbs beagle basset with a neck collar measurement of 15.5 inches.

I'd suggest the small link (2.25 mm) prong. You would want to get some extra links to add if her neck is 15.5 inches. It's always a good idea to have an extra link or two on hand in the case one of them bends over time from normal use (putting on and taking off of collar)

This is the size of prong I use on most of my own dogs, from my 15 pound terrier to my 60 lb Malinois.

I hope this helps!
