QA. 24 Ticket #20343

Full Question:
I went to my vet today. My dog is nervous around new people and was not interested in being touched and handled by her. When I'm with him he is very obedient and listens to all commands etc. My vet insisted that my dog doesnt view me as a leader which I disagree with. She took the dog, muzzle on, tail between his legs and tried walking him around the area to assert her dominance. I expressed how I thought that was wrong and that the dog is clearly scared. He doesnt know her nor the environment. My question is, is it wrong for her to do that to him? From what I've learned from Mr. Frawley and Michael Ellis is that I should be the only one handling my dog. Please let me know. Thank you
Cindy
Cindy Cindy's Answer:
In my opinion and experience, what she did is definitely wrong and I would find a new vet and tell her exactly why you fired her. What she did is not beneficial to your dog's confidence and certainly is the opposite of what she should be doing if she wants the dog to feel less stressed out. I'm sorry you and your dog had to go through that.

Thank you so much for your response Cindy. Are there any vets you can recommend in the Chicago area?
Cindy
Cindy Cindy's Answer:
I don't know of any vets but I can check with some friends/dog trainers I trust to see if anyone has any suggestions. What area/suburb of Chicago would you be closest to?
User Response:
Thank you. I live around the Skokie area.

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
Well, it's amazing. I asked all my dog training friends on social media last fall for vet recommendations and got nothing. I have a whole bunch for you now! You'll have to google for contact info, weed through them and see what would be the best fit and location. As i get more I'll pass them along.

Partners and Paws got multiple recommendations from people I trust.

Here is what I have so far:
Boulevard Veterinary is tops, they are in the Logan Square area. Dr Newman from Partners and Paws Veterinary Services is wonderful as well and will take the time.

VCA Forest South Animal Hospital

Dr. Lynn Trudeau University Park, IL

Here's another that comes from a good personal friend of mine. She's known these vets since they got out of vet school and they are actually the god parents of one of her kids that are now adults and have their own kids :)
Animal Hospital Of Woodstock. Drs Joann and Jason Randall

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
Please keep me updated, I hope you find a great vet (or vets).

I have several I like in my area. It's always good to find 2 or 3 that you like and who work with you and your dog based on your wishes. Just in case you have an emergency or someone is out of town, you have a back up that you trust.
User Response:
Thank you Cindy! I will definitely keep you updated.
