Thanks for looking at the web sites. I thought they were just "show queens" ...even when they are kings ;-).
How does a dobe compare against a GSD in temperament and trainability?
Most of the working dogs back home are dobes and alsatians. There are labs ...but they are used for sniffing alone.
how does one go about importing a dog and how much does it cost ?
also is there a difference between dogs and bitches for a good house hold pet/protection dog ...or is it just a myth?
Have any of you heard of the rajapalayam dog. It is a local breed and are tough as nails. There are a few people who have them as guard dogs ...but they are pretty mean and like a ticking bomb. But they are not trained either.
Also ...I see many of these show dogs ...owned by more than one person....how does that work ???/ How can more than one person own a dog ??? Is it like the dogs stays mon-wed in one house and Thur-Sun in an other house??? Can some one explain this to me?
Also ... I see a lot of Some thing Vom Some thing ...and something von somthing ...what does this Vom and Von mean?
1. On the food refusal - voice corrections are good in some ways - you can have someone try to offer your dog (when you get one) some food and then correct the dog when it tries to get the food -
HOWEVER - how do you know that the dog won't take a bait which might be left in your yard when you are NOT HOME - this is where e-collar training might be better since you can have someone leave a bait (either on the ground, or have someone stand on a neighbouring property and dangle a bait over the fence) and then correct the dog from inside (out of the dog's view) - the dog doesn't even know you zapped him because he can't see you - with some training based on this the dog may learn to leave baits alone... e-collars can be purchased off the internet so even if there is no-one in your region you can still obtain one..
2. Dobermann vs Shepherd ? Phew! I'm not going to weigh into that debate but remember a good dobe is harder to find simply because there aren't as many dobermann breeders as there are for GSD's
oh Ram, by the way vom, van de, von and other similar terms basically mean "of" or "from" -
also zwinger = kennel and zuchter = breeder
it's no big deal and not uncommon considering the large amount of german breeders out there - you will find that due to the german influence kennels in other countries often use von as part of there kennel name - who knows why - maybe it's good marketing because it sounds catchy..it doesn't really matter what their name is though as long as they sell good dogs.
