It's an act of God that we both perfectly fine. Almost two years ago I was in a terrible roll over accident. I had my ten lb Papillon in the front passenger seat. Out of no where everyone on the highway came to a complete stop, people were swerving to avoid each other. I swerved into the right lane and clipped the car in front of me causing me to flip. My dog had her Kurgo seat belt on. I remember looking over to her as we were upside down sliding and spinning across pavement.. We hung there at least 10 minutes.
Because of this seat belt she was not thrown into the dash or out the window, the thick pad across her chest provided full support and did not cause any burn. When the paramedics came she was restrained, therefore keeping her from getting loose and running around the highway or running around looking for me. Also making it a safer situation for the paramedic getting her out of my smashed car because a scared dog can have the potential to be a biting dog. I took her the vet and she didn't even have so much as a bruise on her.
She sported her seat belt to the camera when officers asked to take her picture with her seat belt on and she never gets in the car without it!
Your seat belt saved my dogs life.
So two years later I've adopted a new four legged 100lb family member and here I am buying him a seat belt too. :)

These seat belt tethers are a great simple idea and I had used one for a few years on a rather sedentary female dobe. It was easy to use, kept her from falling headfirst on the floorboard of the car if someone cut me off and I had to stop quickly. I also think my dog felt more comfortable being tethered inside the back seat. They are a great idea , although a dog that is more mobile and one that moves around a lot in the backseat can actually stand on the seat belt release and let themselves loose.
My other more active girl uses the Kurgo zip line and strap. THAT is the best for a really excitable, 'prancing around the backseat' type dog. It tethers the dog from the dogs harness, in the back, to above them. NO straps to tangle in the legs. They can twirl and dance all they want with no problem, and it keeps them safe in the backseat so they can't climb up and get in the drivers way. They can lie down, sit up, or stand with no interference.
Where as, this tether that clips into seat belt buckle, has gotten wound around the excitable dog's legs and I had to stop quite a few times to unbind her legs from the tether, or reconnect it . She could have gotten broken legs so easily from the way it tangled her legs up.(but she is a maniac in the car at first) So if your dog is calm in the car, this is the tether for you. IF your dog is not calm, try the Kurgo zip line and harness.
Both products are well made, and easy to use. Easy to remove or re-install in the car in seconds.. Or you can just leave them in place inside the car and all you have to do is clip the dog in.
