Will the slow feed bowls be effective with dogs that eat their raw too fast?

Full Question:
I spoke to April in the office about this and she recommended I write to you. The new slow down feeders offered by Leerburg, are they effective with dogs that eat their raw too fast? I have a dobe male and he likes to eat his food fast then horks it up and re eats. I went to your raw feeding pic and saw the bowls all lined up very clean and nice. I feed a variety of meats and textures as well has have purchased your kelp powder. I use Olive oil as well. Any suggestions or hints? Do you think this bowl will work or is it only for kibble feeders.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
If you are using big pieces of raw (i.e. leg quarters) the bowl isn’t going to change the way the dog eats much. The bowl is more for dogs that inhale small pieces of food or if you were using ground raw (or honest kitchen or kibble).

I would experiment with feeding him LARGER pieces that he is forced to chew, so if you normally give him small meaty bones (like wings) try giving him a ½ a chicken instead. Some people hold on to the end of the pieces so the dog can’t swallow them without chewing and others serve the food partially frozen so the dog has to work at licking and chewing it a bit more.

For a dog like yours, I would either go to ground up mixtures with the slow down bowl or go to really big pieces that he’s forced to chew. I hope this helps.
