I have a 5 month old male GSD. I was just wondering what the average size and weight should be. He eats 4-5 cupe of Eukanuba a day but is still really thin and I think a bit small for his size. A couple of other dogs that I have seen that are his age look much more developed. I would love to know what the average size range is. Thanks for the help.
Excuse me ..... eeding along a chart seems dangerous to me. Every dog is different and grows different so that feeding along this chart might cause either total overweight or underweight. Just take a look at your dog and when he/she is standing about 3-4 feet away from you and is breathing normally you should be able to see his/her last one or two ribs. Then the dog is fine.
And let me warn you ..... if you will ask your vet about his/her weight, he will probably tell you that the dog is far to skinny ..... understandable, an overweight dog has a lot more health issues that a dog with a good weight and the vet wants to make some money !!!
Just to give you an example .... my female is 20 months now and she has 55 lbs. She is on the small, but bulky side but still light weight. If I would feed her until she has 65 lbs she would look like a moving hot dog.
My female before that had about 75 lbs at the age of 2 and she would have been just skin and bones with 64 lbs !!!
Two GSD, two females and two totally different dogs !!!

Who said anything about feeding along a chart? It sounds to me like all Casey was curious about was a generic average...obviously there are size differences within any breed <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the input but Mike is correct. I was just curious about the average. My pup is 5 1/2 months and 45lbs. So he is a little small for his age according to the chart. Two of his littermates are over 60lbs. so they are really big. I was just curious about the average and where he fell in that range.
If you really believe that your vet would give you bad advice about your dogs weight so that your dog would be less healthy and require more vet visits... you should be looking for a new vet ASAP!!
While I believe there are vets like that out there I don't think it is the norm, and if I had any inclination that my vet put his personal finances over the well being of my dog I would be out of his office as fast as I possibly could.
