Okay, about 2 weeks ago Ryuk blew his coat (complete with clumps coming out of his back, etc) and came out all sleek and a lot cooler. Today I noticed that he was leaving a LOT of hair on a shorthaired black puppy he plays with as they rolled around.
He seems to be blowing his coat again....particularly the shorter stuff on his chest? There are no bald spots, the attached fur is very healthy and he's nice and shiny....Is this a normal thing? He is my first dog with fur (I grew up with the hair breeds) and I did expect an insane amount of shedding but....I sorta liked not vacuuming twice a day anymore....
For diet/general things he's on a high quality kibble and high quality 95% meat wet food, he does have "raw days" particularly when my lab for school brings me to a slaughterhouse or farm where we get meat freebies. He also gets fish oil daily. He's got no known allergies and isn't inchy and has no hair loss. He is brushed with a slicker brush regularly (about every other day) and I attack him with the furminator once a week. He's bathed with he needs it or every 2 or so weeks (his favorite playmate covers him in drool, so after that point he starts to smell funny)
Not only are each of his main hairs different colors from each other (red vs blue) EACH HAIR is multi toned in either white and black or silver, white, and red....there is not a fabric that exists in this world he'll blend in with.....
Its major blow out season in my neck of the woods. Every double coated dog i've groomed the last couple weeks has been in the looks-like-moth-eaten-mattress stage.
This started 2 weeks ago? Really? Wanna trade dogs? Hans starts shedding in the spring and continues all summer. It is just now tapering off. And that's it. It never stops. It just tapers off. He basically sheds once a year, for 365 days.
We talked to the vet about this two weeks ago tomorrow. He has a commercially available supplement that he gives dogs with coat issues. He told us the owners report back that not only does it improve their dog's coat, but it also substantially reduces shedding. We've been giving it to him for almost two weeks now and it seems to me that he is shedding less, but I'd kind of expect that this time of year anyway, so the jury is still out.
no no, I thought it ENDED 2 weeks ago....I was all excited that I got to stop vacuuming nonstop...then BOOM here it goes again....I'm really glad his hair isn't static crazy or I'd really be in trouble
Even my single coated dogs are shedding like crazy right now. Nico's hair is just growing back in from her allergy issues this summer and she is still shedding like crazy.
