I can't seem to get past the first 3 statements.... lol
"There are several possible reasons why a dog may bite a child:
The dog is protecting a possession, food or water dish or puppies.
The dog is protecting a resting place.
The dog is protecting its owner or the owner's property."
'protecting' Food/resting place/owner/property is all resource guarding- it's all the same thing going on in the doggy's brain. I don't think there is any need to break it down into those details, and it give owners false impressions that the dog is 'protecting' them. No, he's not.... he's hoarding you. He thinks you belong to him.
I looked around the site a little bit, it seems to be a little inconsistent if not incorrect in presentation. Granted I didn't read everything, nor am I a trainer or educator. There is a lot of 'lay' terminology and references intertwined with the use of professional verbage.
I get that the mother is trying to educate the average family with children and dogs through her own traumatic loss. I guess it just doesn't really feel like there is a clear understanding of dog and trying to put words in that hole.
So many times post dog bits child, there is shock but if you went back and watched video of the interactions, it is more of a matter of when it would happen. The signs were there all along.
Tough educational piece with the complexity of individuals and their understanding, lifestyle, particulars of the dog, etc.

Edit reason: I had a thought, but now it is gone.
Anything anybody can do to educate folks so that children aren't bitten is good.
Excellent Point!!!!!!
The only reason my parents dog was not euthanized after biting Kylie (my 3 yr old daughter) was because of my insistence it was a combination of terrible timing and weird circumstances that could easily be prevented in the future.... and they have been prevented from combining again. Kylie loves the dog now just as much as she did before the bite.
If I had a little less knowledge about dog bites, crates, resource guarding and stuff that bundled into those categories, I may have had a different view. Harley is safe though,
