Can anyone recommend a good brand of dog backpacks? Something that can stand up to daily use and is comfortable for the dog.

I had a vest custom made at Tactical Tailor (www.tacticaltailor.com) with military MOLLE webbing on it that gives me the option of attaching whatever types of pouches I want in different configurations depending on the "mission" that day. Lifetime repair/replacement guarantee on all their products.

Luca has one that is "Outward Hound" brand--it's pretty basic, a nylon canvas job with nylon web straps. It's done the job.

I've got that one for biking the trails. The straps loosen up worse and worse every single time I use it (maybe 10 times) and I've had it two months. Honestly I'm going to be re-tooling it with some heavy duty velcro and extra padding because it's just not working for us. It was enough of a steal with a markdown that it's worthwhile to try to fix it when I don't use it frequently but I'm not sure it would stand up well to hard use. Zephyr likes it well enough or she doesn't seem uncomfortable in it, but I don't like it enough to recommend it.
I like the Ruffwear packs a lot but I've heard mixed reviews particularly in the sliding straps issue.
If it's really for every day you might as well go for the best fitting and best quality off the bat. Custom would be the way to go.

Another vote for Tactical Tailor. They build quality gear.

Nordkyn Outfitters has a lot of nice stuff but I don't have one of the backpacks.

Anyone used backpacks from Wolfpack?
http://wolfpacks.com/products/
Sutter has gotten into shape faster than I (granted, I was the one who was pregnant) and needs a bigger challenge.

I don't use the water bags unless I'm hiking and know I will need water. You can take the bags off and use it as a harness.
